Default how to - install ITR wheel - MY way

here is my first try, on my old crx!

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/project-thread-turbo-dan-sir-front-end-crx-how-installing-itr-wheel-1953144/

if you read this thread first this will make more sense.

couple pictures of the wheel that came with the car when i bought it, a very nice wheel btw and i never thought i would like a grant wheel so much.

here is what the grant hub looks like, its a pile of ****

hub removed (notice the signals cancel switch still in tact)

new hub

this is the tricky part, i had the nrg short hub taken to a machine shop and i created a new bolt pattern, the two yellow circles are the holes i had added. The ITR wheel bolts to the hub with 4 bolts and the pattern is just that.
with some modification to the wheel to match up the holes and its really to install

here is the wheel mounted, all i had to do was hook up the horn (simple two wire plug and play)

here is a shot of the distance, same as a stock wheel, no reaching for the signal lever, and still keeping the stock signal cancel switch unharmed.

rest of the pics i was just trying to get a good shot of it with the bad parkade lighting

Why go through all of the trouble? Why not just put ITR wheel on EF spline?

No hub needed

No why didnt you just bolt the wheel straight the the ef spline? Would of made life easier.

the itr wheel doesnt work like this

the itr wheel comes with an itr hub, that looks like this nrg hub, very similar.
now if you dont use the stock itb hub you need to substitute something in its place, i use an nrg short hub.
if you use the stock itr hub that comes with the wheel, it doesnt fit the steering rack and leaves you with no threads to tighten it.
to overcome this problem, some have shaved or removed the signal cancel switch.

so to make this very clear - you CANNOT attach this wheel without a hub, its not possible

That's pretty sweet, can you put in a quick release set-up on that aswell or is that hub already a quick release?
That Grant wheel isn't bad at all.

it is possible to add a quick release, although it adds a bit of length depending on what brand you use.
i sold my old quick release and right now i will be running without.

if you click the link in my first post you can see when i used a quick release to install it.

As far as I know, DC splines = EG splines. And I bought the Honda Access Momo EG wheel (this one, mine has the cover on it though) which comes with a Momo hub for EG/DC. It fit directly onto my EF hub with no modification whatsoever.

HOWEVER--I do not have turn signal return, I have to do that manually. I really couldn't care less though, everything else in the car is manually operated anyway, besides the sunroof.

here is all you need to know in simple terms:
i didn't want to ghetto rig the stock ITR hub like you did
i didnt want to lose my turn signals like you did
sure it fits, but it doesnt WORK
i wanted a hub that both fit and worked!

so now enough with the odd questions, this is not a complicated idea.

so i have a nice looking nrg short hub, and i have my factory turn signal working properly, and i dont have the wheel tightened dangerously on only a few threads, its tightened properly with tons of threads.

the "however" part the reason for this thread, in the end i didn't want to have one single however!

cannot believe how complicated people make things...
some of the posts above didnt even think i needed a hub at all, they thought the itr wheel alone fit on the car with no hub at all.

the answer is yes, you can but you need to drill and thread two extra holes because the pattern is a 4 bolt rather than a 6 bolt.

next time read the entire post! haha

thanks! and this wasnt even really a swap for me since the car never came with the stock wheel when i bought it, so i actually installed a wheel that was going backwards in the swap sense.

Ghetto rig? I just put the on the splines and lined it up. If that's not how you install any hub, then I am really confused

My turn signals work, btw, it's just the auto-return that doesn't. It appears that, in the end, you put all that work and effort so you could have...turn signal auto-return? Whatever floats your boat

post a picture of the bolt fully tightened on the hub, then we will see how clean of an install you claim it is.
and the signal thing, you're right i did put the effort in, you did the lazy **** most people do and now because of it you have to cancel your own signal.

n/m ill post the pictures for you

ghetto rigged itr hub with no signal cancel

fully threaded nrg hub with working signals

I'm bringing this back up because I just installed my wheel today, and TurboDan is right. Even with removing the turn signal canceler the overall amount of thread left is marginal. Yes the steering wheel does bolt on, no I don't feel that it is going to fall off, but I do feel that the Good engineers of Honda gave us xxx mm of thread to be used for a reason.
