Default Honda/Acura Seatbelt Warranty

So I searched Honda-Tech and G2IC.com, and found that Honda warranties their seatbelts for the life of the car they're in; as long as the car doesn't have a salvage title.

Anyway, my '93 LS automatic seatbelts were screwing with me (the passenger side wouldn't retract and the seatbelt warning system wouldn't stopping "dinging"). I called Park Acura last Friday to ask if the warranty was real or not, and they said it was, so I made an appointment for today. I dropped the car off at 7:45 this morning, got a '08 TL as a rental, and bobbled along happily to work.

After work I went back to the dealership to pick up my 15-year old Integra from having warranty work, and needless to say all is well...with a free car wash and vacuumed interior to go along with my now-working seatbelts!

I am a Honda/Acura customer for life. I truly am seriously really impressed right now!

Ya, I work at Acura and it was awesome. I got to order all new seatbelts for my teg and then I got to install them on my car. I liked the idea of getting paid to work on my own car.

All the new cars now only have a 17 year warranty on the seatbelts instead of lifetime. Still a long time though.

Interesting. Is it required to have an issue for the warranty to be honored or is it considered a "recall".

Its a warranty. Bring your car in and it will be honored. I am not even sure if they check to see if its a salvage. My boss didnt ask me that at all on my car but its a clean title so I dunno.

they needed to witness the issue to know what to do. like shaggy said, its a warranty, not a recall.

It's actually a federal law (I believe) that all companies that made cars equipped with seatbelts are required to provide a lifetime warranty on their seatbelts...I might be wrong about it being a federal law, but that's what I heard.

I've also heard of some people getting charged by their dealerships for seatbelt work...

Right on. Nice to see they're honoring it though. Haven't had any problems on my new car yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I am having problems with my seatbelt not clicking in right. It barely clicks in and kind of makes you feel unsafe if you were to be in an accident. They do have some retraction problems as well. I didn't buy the car straight from Acura or anything, I don't have a salvage title either. But your telling me I can go to any Acura dealership and get that repaired for free? I would rather just have the parts for free and install myself, but I'm not going to complain.

Why do the work when you can get someone else to do it for free?? Plus you may have the chance to cruise in a new TL for the day :-)
