there are 2 lma's

the first gen b16 heads/ obd0 b16's/ 89-91 came with lms that have a much smaller surface area. all b16/gsr/itr heads after the jdm first gen came with the same new larger lma's

type r lmas are different they have a higher spring rate if you will, i have ctr cams and i researched this for a while on here and other sites and talked with my tuner about it, and came to the conclusion that i needed the type r or h22 lma mod. i did the latter, 70 bux in the whole shebang

to the op pm me i will sell you my gsr lma cheap

taking from evans-tuning:

poster: i read that since the ITR cams have a higher lift, ITR lost motions have to be used.

jeff evans:
That is not true at all. The only real issue is on super large lift cams that the LMA has enough surface area so that the rocker doesnt slip off of it. The GSR and H22a have larger "pads" or surface area on the faces. ITR cams are not that large, and you dont really need to worry about upgrading the LMAs.

poster:does this hold true even for the gen 1 (88-91) b16a heads? i have been researching this myself and it says they must be replaced... i sure hope not lol i just finished my head

jeff evans: ihave tuned so many turbo cars with ITR and larger cams that have thrown together heads over the years that if it did matter I am sure I would have had a failure due to LMAs on the dyno by now.

isnt the LMA only being used when VTEC is not engaged? so why would it be an issue during the event of high lift (like vtec)
