Icon6 JDM cluster help!!!

I have a 91 civic hatch with a b20 swap, I picked it up with a jdm cluster, my EF has cable drive, so there is the first thing I need to tackle because it is missing it i think thats the reason the speed tach dont work. I did a search and found the wiring info, but i'm kinda confuse which is the speed sensor on it, and i am a noob to this honda scene so correct me on the parts im wrong.

Do the two clusters have interchangeable parts, meaning can I take the mph cable drive speed assembly apart and place it in the other housing utilizing the electronic vss in the jdm cluster?

Second question, what is the best way to change from cable drive to electronic vss if its possible with my swap?

Any help would be appreciated, I was unable to find an answer using the search function, but I'm sure I cant be the first to attempt this

The crx faq on the top of this forum is where I would start...

And probably finish, all of this has been covered before on this site and numerous others.

Did you even search?

FYI I'm working on a proper write up and should be done with it in the next week or so.

I currently have other more pressing items i.e. finals and the 25 hours of Thunderhill.

Will do! I'm working on the sub-board when I have time... looks like they're only feeding power... never mind I just figured it out while typing this. I need more sleep!!!!!

I'll try to finish it by next weekend as I need to add a few items to my cabin harness and would like to have that done first.

Just so happens I'm working on the cluster / dash harness out of the car so I can do near simultaneous work. ;-)

I'm going to recommend you buy a vehicle speed sensor (VSS). I like the idea of it a bit more than running the cable to a modified gauge - I saw that here on HT a week or so ago.

You know, I don't think we can get away with saying that with the new "backwards" search engine. We used to be able to clearly pull up the search terms VSS as a thread title, now you have to sift through any POST titled VSS.

God it's annoying.

Look on the transmission near the firewall under the intake manifold.
(If you need EXACT location then do a search for a picture on the net)
This is where the gear for the cable drive is mounted.
To swap to VSS you replace the gear with the electric VSS and then run a wire to the cluster.

My guess is that something is wrong with the wiring.

Make sure you are getting 12V in to the VSS with the ignition on.
Make sure the ground wire on the VSS is really grounded.

You can bench test the VSS by taking it out of the tranny and hooking the 12V directly to battery and running the ground wire direct to ground.
That will make SURE you have the proper voltage.
Hook the 3rd wire (the one that goes to your tach) to a multimeter and look for a 5 volt pulse while you rotate the wheel on the VSS.

You should have a 3 pin plug on the top of the VSS sending unit on the trans, you may want to check for ignition and ground with a VOM (meter) at this plug. The 3rd wire is the VSS wire connected to the cluster, this wire is a AC signal and pulses +/- when the vehicle/axles are moving.

Black - ground (outer)
Yellow/Blue - Ignition + (center wire)
Yellow/White - VSS (outer)

Not sure where they sit in reguards to the firewall w/o going out in the cold

For testing? Straight to + on the battery.
For permanent install you will need to find a switched power wire - meaning a wire that provides 12 volts only when the ingition is on.
