Icon6 Timing Belt Replacement, how much, what else?

Hello there, When picking up a friend at the car shop I was approached by a her mechanic and was asked how my 2002 honda accord was running. I replied "great". He asked how many miles I had on the car. After replying 130K. He said I should consider changing my timing belt before it breaks on me. I blew off his comment thinking he soooo wants my business. Now I can't get over weather or not I do need to change my timing belt? Everytime i drive my car I can't stop thinking of that timing belt breaking and leaving me stranded. Help.

How much does the timing belt normally cost. The man at the car shop said it could run me about $1300.00? Is there anything else I should consider changing as well?

I bought my car brand new and have kept it maintain all these years. Not once did someone mention the timing belt.

Timing belt should be done every 80-90K miles. These cars will run forever in many cases if the belt is replaced that often. Once the belt breaks the motor typically gets major damage such as valves smashed into piston tops.

There should be a complete kit available online, it should also include idler and tensioner pulleys, cam and crank seals along with balencer shaft seal and balencer belt if your engine has one. Give a few independent shops a call and make sure they give the whole list of parts similar to the posts here. Also ask the brand name of the kit if they are going to use a kit. Honda or Gates or Sealed Power come to mind as really good.

replacement on around 2000 and newer is around 105k miles and or 7 years.

Replacement is around 700-1000 I've seen. We charge around 680 + tax

I have a 2002 with 58k miles. Am I running on borrowed time, since it is almost 7 years? I have to check the manual again, but I thought it was 7 years regardless of mileage or 60k for severe/90k for normal. I am a bit confused, because the answers have been all over the board.

Also for the OP, Handaccessories sells a kit for the Accord, including water pump.

It goes by milage and type of driving, "60k for severe / 90k for normal" as you stated.
