Default Is o2 sensor supposed to get hot?

Ok I followed the advice of some h-t members and wrapped my secondary o2 in foil and tucked it under my dash. Is it still supposed to get really hot? And for the o2 sensor heater wires, does it matter which black wire goes to where?

the o2 sensor is suppose to get hot, hence heated o2 sensor.

it doesn't matter which way the two black wires go, either way it works.
