Icon2 What is the purpose of skinnies?

Hello, can somone please tell me why people run skinnies. Is it just a weight reduction thing or is it an aerodynamic advantage? Thanks

Rolling resistance. There is a much smaller contact patch with a skinny.

Weight also plays into this...

you can get a weight savings of about 40-50lbs, compared to using regular road wheels with regular tires.

i'm not so sure i am a big fan of skinnies.

I run 14inch HX wheels with 175 width tires.
They are only 8.3lbs heavier a piece than the bogart skinnies i borrowed for a few races this year.

My car never went faster with the skinnies.

Maybe with a car that goes a lot faster they come into play. However Joe Simpson seems to still be hauling *** with his street tires in the rear. . .

there is plenty of difference with sprung and unsprung weight jake. some dont realize how much advantages weight can make when putting it where you want it then having it stuck in rotating mass.

exospeed drag wheels has a great weight per dollar on there setup, better then most wheels on the market.

and the "dude your front tires are flat" comments. i musta got that like 15 times when i was getting my lisc at cecil county.

purpose of skinnies originally, along with rolling resistance, is unspring weight. allows the car to react faster. idk how much of a benefit the unsprung arguement is, over just them being lighter. but thats just a thought i had.

Tires for my Downhill mountain bike are more than azenis' lol

I think it's a mass production sort of cost, along with being able to charge that because they rest of the companies do.

I run skinnies because they look cool, and that's all that matters!

We are going to raysmtb.com on Saturday....you have a DJ or FR bike? DH bike tires are mad expensive and weigh about the same as an ET skinny.

Back to the topic.... Skinnies... I know plenty of people that run the same times with or without skinnies. Most people that have them got them for the "cool" factor.
