Default Does a malfunctioning secondary O2 sensor affect performance?

I just read on another Honda site that the secondary O2 sensor doesn't affect performance or gas mileage and that it's only function is to monitor the performance of the emissions equipment. I guess that would be the cat. Any truth to this?

This is 100% correct the secondary O2 also known as bank 1 sensor 2 or bank 2 sensor 2 is there to make sure the cat is doing its job.
