Yes, its pretty strange. I recently swapped in a new jdm gsr block into my car, but i kept my itr head. Well the car runs great, but it wont stay on if i plug up a vacuum nipple. The vacuum nipple is suppose to go to the evap purge solenoid, but i deleted the evap completely. I can't remember if the nipple was plugged or not before i swapped out the motor. The car will run with the vacuum open to air, but when i cap it off with a vacuum cap, the car will die. So basically heres a recap.
Car will run with the vacuum open to the atmosphere.
If i cap the vacuum off, car can't get enough air and it dies.
Everything is plugged in right. I tried to reset the ecu and run the car with the vacuum cap on and it still dies. My iac is good. everything is good except this little problem. I dont like driving around with a vacuum leak.
I didnt touch the idler screw because my idle was fine before i swapped out the block. I'm wondering if swapping in this new low compression block would cause the idle to act a little funky? I'm going to try to unplug the iac and adjust the idler screw with the vacuum plugged up.
sorry if this makes no sense. its late and i've been up doing homework. i'll try to make it clearer tomorrow. please ask questions if you don't understand.

I had an issue like this once with a JDM H22A. The issue was with the throttle body. Your gsr may not have the proper vacuum port into the throttle (mine didn't have one at all) so it would die if I plugged it. So in your case you are using the one on the intake manifold itself I would guess? Do you still have the little black canister on the passnger side fo the engine bay with the vacuum hoses coming out of it? If so you may need to extend the one that would normally go to the throttle body to the nipple you are talking about on the intake manifold (unless of course none of this is true). I am just throwing a guess out there based on what I have seen before. Good luck!

Well...that just means that air isn't getting into the manifold without unplugging that vacuum nipple.
That's supposed to be your IAC's job. Maybe that port is clogged up. Maybe the IAC is not functioning. You're going to try to adjust the idle...but that screw would have to be WAY f'ing in to constrict airflow all the way. Might as well give it a shot, though.
