JDM vs USDM Horsepower
I've thought about this quite a bit and haven't been able to find a good answer. We all know that the good ol' USDM Type R comes with 195 ponies. I do believe that the rating on a stock JDM ITR is 197... a difference of a whopping 2 horses. Now this doesn't make much sense to me. When people put a JDM header on their USDM Type R the dynos frequently show at least a good 10 hp *to the wheels*. The JDM ITR engine also comes with higher compression, and probably a few more goodies I don't even know about. So why is the factory horsepower difference only two horsepower?

USDM=195, JDM=200. But I think i saw some where it say that the 2001 JDM has 210 don't know about this. JDM 11:1, 4-1 header and 100 octane=200 or (210 for 2001?).

US horsepower is rated in SAE (Standard of Automotive Engineers?) Japanese horsepower is rated at JIS i think or something like that. I dont know the exact diff but i know the #s wont be the same
You cannot compare these two numbers. The conditions for the measurement are different and therefore the correction values.
PS is what the europeans and asian people use.
AU/US/CDN use HP
.
its just 2 different ways of representing power calculated slightly different.

well consider the "actual" HP in a USDM ITR. a 97/98 has a few less hp than a 00/01 due to intake cam and possible ECU settings. A FF Honda should lose about 15%. THe question is if a 97/98 and a 00/01 are rated at 195 hp which one really has it.
195 is an estimate. JDM ITR is like mentioned above 200 PS which equals 197 hp.
I have thought about this before too . . . JDM 4-1, higher compression (.5), different cat, slightly better Gas, different ECU (?).

98 RON would be 96 octane which can be had in most European countries.
100 RON would be 98 octane...so either one would be better then what we have. I've used 98 octane before it makes big differences in engine noise and performance off the line.
In Japan you can also get 100 octane and 115 octane fuels. Some it is referred to it as Red gas because of the colour and normally used in many Skylines there.

i just thought the JDM motors has a few extra ponies cause of thier higher compression..
