How often do your drag cars break parts???
I am just curious how many passes people usually get without problems or do they seem to break parts alot in a season, running anywhere from 10's-9's. Is there always going to be something that will eventually break and how does everyone stay ahead of it. It just seems like it is a constant battle or is they're hope out there, I guess the main reason I am asking it because right when I got my car running good on low boost I broke a retainer and bombed my engine.

It all has to do with setup and how fast you are actually going. I've seen 100k plus drag cars break some thing every run due to bad setup and/ or bad tunning.
Just remember if it breaks replace with better. Eventually ya won't break little things that often, except axles they save ya from eating trannys(unless spent a ton on nice one).

Things WILL break. Its just part of racing and even the best of the best can break. There's alot of factors that cause things to fail. In many cases, its just by chance. You have $5000+ transmissions that can fail with one guy and last months with another guy. Even with the best tunes, you have engines lasting along time and you have another guy that last half as long.
If you have luck like mine, I break the best parts money can buy all the time. Sometimes its tough to get a break. I know people that dont break anything and they just put **** together. I guess its your luck.
We haven't broken anything major in the 3 months we raced this year. I tweaked a fuel return hose end, blew off a few intercooler pipes, front bumper fell down a couple of times, blew out the gasket on an oil filter, wore the 2-3-4 synchros down pretty quickly, killed a set of slicks, twisted the front LCA inner bushings, forgot to tighten down the rear mount sufficiently, and lifted the head a couple of times.
If you throw out the wear items and the stupid stuff we could have prevented, we had four things worth mentioning.

My VW has had some amazing luck with stuff holding up. We had two seasons of SCCA roadracing and now over three hundred passes on stock axles. We did snap one center section but the CV joints all looked great. I attribute that to preloading at the launch.
We have learned the limitations of transmissions, though. Luckily, VW boxes are easy and cheap to build and in fact I've spent NO money except gearlube on the last three overhauls (losing third gears). I do some trading or have been given stock trannys for parts. We did manage an 11.3 on just 1st, 2nd and 4th last summer! 3rd gear was piled up on the bottom of the case and we did manage to get to the next round of eliminations without it.
Beyond that, we've only popped a boost pipe or two this year.
We spend alot of time in preparation between events and it seems to have paid off for us. We'll see, though, what happens as we get into the 9's.

Only thing I have really broken in the past couple years is:
#4 piston ringland........(stock engine)
Dizzy cap and rotor.......(set screw came out of rotor)
Left front lower ball joint castle nut somehow popped loose and in return the ball joint popped loose. Luckily the nut stayed on and I caught the problem the next day. That could have been bad!!
I have broken an axle a long time ago on my SOHC with a 60shot. Thats going on 10 years ago though.
I dont get to race my car that often at the track, but it gets beat on elsewhere. While it may not be the fastest out there it still holds up pretty good. I think a lot of it has to do with driving sometimes.

Ive gone threw more clutches than axles. Only broke 2 stock axles in 3 years of drag racing. Went threw about 6 clutches though LOL. Other than that i havent broken much knock on wood.
last year i blew 3 motors but this year i'm making way more power and the motor holds up but i'm on my 3rd tranny as far as axles go i've broke 1 axle the whole season on a 745WHP car so i dunno i guess its just luck of the draw when it comes to axles

Ran it for maybe 2 months no breaking didn't even get to bolt slicks on boo
