Default So how is San Antonio, TX?

So I'm originally a WA native, and am looking into moving to San Antonio, TX for a job. So to those of you that live there........

Whats the import scene like?

Is car theft a huge deal?

Some Honda scene information in SA would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I live closer to Houston on the outskirts, but I've been to San Antonio a few times, and I'd keep your R locked up very well. I'm hispanic and have family out there, so I'll tell you right now, theres a lot of hispanics out there, and from what I've heard, car theft out there is pretty high. When I visited a couple weeks ago, I had my R in my cousins garage the whole weekend and just went cruising around in his car (GS300) because I was very paranoid about bringing it out.

Theft is terrible in SA. I'd keep it garaged / locked / chained / blocked in / with a boot on / with a garage alarm.

I grew up in San Antonio. It really depends on what part of town you are and even what neighborhood but as a general rule, yes the car theft there is bad. My best advice is..

1. get a garage.
2. get a Dog.
3. get a gun.
4. learn spanish

We are lucky when it comes to Inspection... Basically, they check your headlights, brake lights, turn signals, wipers, tire condition, muffler & cat existence, and look for a CEL - visual check only.

They will check your brakes via pedal feel when moving the car in and out of the inspection bay. No OBD scan or tail pipe emissions testing in this area.

Dallas/Fort Worth is not so fortunate, however.

As far as theft goes, this area has gained a crappy reputation lately. It depends on the area you live, San Antonio covers a much larger area than cities with similar population count's. Keep your R safe for sure, I don't even chance my car in SA. It's a clean GSR, but still.

Theft is bad in Dallas and I can imagine it being a lot worse in SA ..... Sucks you can't have a nice car... As long as you garage it and always keep an eye on it, you should be fine... Make sure you move into a house w/ a garage/alarm setup....

If you have to drive your R to work, then you might as well try selling it now !

Well when I move, I'm first going to be living in an apartment. Then after I figure out the area(s), both good and bad, I was going to be looking at getting an apartment with a garage. So does anybody that lives in SA have an R in an apartment garage and what kind of luck are you guys having with keeping your R safe? Same question applies to anyone who knows someone in that same situation now.

Thanks for all the info so far!

Yea, thanks for that whiz kid. I thought what I stated in my earlier posts made this clear.

Now have any type R owners, that do in fact live in apartments in San Antonio, TX, had any problems with people trying to break in the garage at their complex? If in fact anyone falls into the same situation, I may end up getting myself into.

Hmmm... Your first statement tells me that you are going to move into an apt without a garage and then shop around for an apt with a garage after you figure out the area.

I am just trying to give you a heads up....

Why make this thread.. you know that owning an ITR sucks b/c low lifes want your car no matter where you live. There is that guy that lived up north and had his ITR stolen out of his garage from his house. Another guy had his EK stolen & ITR stolen ( R was in the garage ) & ( EK outside behind the garage ).

I could careless if your R gets stolen really.... I'm not sure why I replied since it should be common sense that if they really want your R, they will eventually get it.

I purchased my new 98 ITR in SA. Had to pick from the 6 they had on the lot. Wish I would have bought all of them so I could pull out a new one every few years.

Made the mistake of parking the car on the street in NYC in the same place for 2 nights in a row......

A garage won't help much in SA, your best bet is to hide it from everyone. Take the long way home etc. Its sad but horribly true.

You crazy, there was a total of 6 stolen vehicles from the UTSA parking lot back in Oct-Nov 2006. (NorthWest SA)

Not to mention countless cars went missing in NW and North SA. Pull up the public SAPD records and you will be amazed.

When I picked up my teg from the SAPD holding facility I counted 23 civic/integras that were theft recovery still sitting there.

Please make sure you know the facts before making a crazy statement like that. Thieves have learned to look in the better parts of town for the simple fact that people (like you) feel they are safe for some reason.

i live san antonio and the honda scene here is ok i guess. i really dont go out much to local meets because alot of thieves go there to scope out what they want to get. i would highly recommend that if you decide to move here that you stay somewhere on the northside. san antonio has more bad side than good and up there its alot good and less bad, but even then no where here is too safe.

i lived in San Antonio for about two years bought the R there too.....i did keep her in the apartment complex which were gated but no garage......that only lasted for about three months or so till i noticed people scoping out the car....so i decided to daily the GSR and take the R to Laredo Tx which is where my parents live....But then again my R is the only R in Laredo....haha. And thats that i lived way north in SA. I simply recommend a garage as soon as u come down to SA.
