Icon2 What heads came on d15b8 blocks??

I'm confused at this point, i've done some searching to try and figure out on my own, but didn't really find what i needed. I have a d15b8 block, but the casting number on my head is P08-3, (so a D16z6). I need a new head, and logic would tell me that i should find a z6 head, so my question is could some one have done a mini-me swap and would i have any way of knowing??

Is the head vtec? The original valve cover will say "Vtec".
The stock b8 head has 8 valves and no vtec. The original valve cover will say "8 Valve".

yeah, its a VTEC, (16 valve, Lost Motion Assembly, Spool valve). Also, does anyone know how much heads change from casting number to casting number?? more specifically for the D16z6 heads?? Ok, i'm really just looking to confirm the obvious here, i highly doubt the cast number is wrong, but unless THIS has some misinformation i need a z6 head??

There are a few picture of my head, i'll post up pics of the block code and head code tomorrow. But really though, what would be different on a d16 from a d15? because at this point, if some one did do a swap, and if understand correctly, i wouldn't be able to bolt on a d15 head, that and i really only have two choices, VTEC d15 or d16z6.

It be a D16Z6 Head, JDM Vtec ZC head, or JDM D16B Vtec head. The first 2 engines are identical. The last one is a a bit different but uses the same, although with a slightly more aggressive cam. Any of the 3 will work fine. So will another D15B8 head or the 16 valve D15B7 head.

The D16Z6 and JDM SOHC Vtec ZC are identical engines. The D16Y8 is off on its own, theres nothing else the same. And the D15B Vtec is kind of an oddball engine thats really kind of a hodge of different D-series engines plus some unique parts. The head is the same as a D16Z6, but with a unique cam, the block is similar to D15Z1 found in the VX hatchback, the crank is unique (rod journals are the same as a D16Z6, but the main journals are the same as a D15B7) rods are also the same as a D16Z6.

awesome thanks, well, i've found a d16, so it should be here in this or next week, so we'll see how things go. Anyways, just to show i'm not crazy, here is the casting number for the head and block code, as well 4 relief cuts in the pistons. On that, b8's doesn't usually come with piston with 4 relief cuts do they?? oh yeah, i know, burnt coolant, wasn't my doing, it came that way.

Yeah they do actually. Its rumored that some early '92 models don't have the extra relief cuts, but otherwise they're all supposed to have them. What you have is known as a mini-me swap BTW.
