Default 98 Civic EX Coupe.:.Tire Stretch (search=no go)

Alright. Ive got a 98 Civic EX Coupe. Its white and as of now on stock suspension(Christmas looks promising towards teins). I picked up some cheap rims from a friend who totaled his EG. They are 17X7 white some black.
He curb rashed the ***** out of them so I decided to "repair" em. I sanded down the entire rim and worked my way up to about 800 grit so it was smooth. I decided to repaint them lime green for now (wanna be different) but I might go back to white.

Anyways...Im gonna need some new tires and I love the stretched look. They are 17X7's so I need a good tire size and brand for the stretch.

Also if anyone good recommend the right spacing I might need to make the tire loof flush with the fender line.

All comments/critique welcome. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that a 205 is as narrow of a tire that you can get with the aspect ratio that you need..I've tried to find narrower tires for my 17s as well with no luck.

By the "stretched look", if you mean using skinny tires on wheels that are wider than approved by the tire manufacturer for that size, that is unsafe and a bad idea all around. But on those wheels, you can slap on some 205/40-17 tires and you'll be fine, with no problems at all (assuming that the offset is what you need for your car).

Really? I read about it a lot and nobody has found any disadvantages to it. Could you explain?

The engineers who work for the tire manufacturers do a stress analysis in order to determine which wheel widths are allowable for each tire model and size they make. They publish specs that include this range of approved wheel widths. If you use a wheel that is narrower than the minimum of this range, or wider than the top of this range, it's unsafe; stress and heat can build up in the sidewall, and this can lead to failure of the tire. And you won't get any kind of warranty reimbursement if the tire fails in those circumstances; every warranty excludes any usage that is outside what is approved for the tire, and using tires on the wrong width wheel constitutes user error, excluded from the warranty.

The range of approved rim widths for tires is explained on the Tire Rack website here.

Not safe.

Please buy a Volkswagen if this is your idea of a "good time."

Stretching the tires is something that is practiced alot on Vdubs but it is very unsafe... also most Honda guys don't do this because you cause to much stress on your tires which equals into a loss of performance!

Unsafe, also leaves you wheels exposed to damage. A properly sized tire will protect your wheels from curbing.

You didn't mention the offset of those wheels. The offset number (when combined with the wheel width) determines the positioning of the face of the wheel, out from or in towards the car body. Look in the FAQ topic stickied at the top of this forum to see how offset is calculated. I don't know what offset works best on your car. In general, you want the wheel positioned for maximum clearance around the tire, so it doesn't rub anywhere. There are parts you can get to push the wheel out further - spacers, preferably hubcentric ones, possibly with extended studs and open-ended lug nuts - but you have to be careful that that doesn't cause the tires to rub on the fender liners.

I would suggest getting the 205/40-17 tires and mounting them on the wheels, and seeing how they look. They may look fine without doing anything else. Assuming you're not going for the low-rider look, of course. And if not, then you can look into getting those additional parts.

Width is 7" and offset is somewhere between 35-42.

Thanks for all the help.
