Default SCCA SFR - Fresno Region - August 11 auto-x @ Castle AFB

Hi all,

This summer I had been planning to get my SCCA membership and auto-x every weekend with the San Fran region, but my plan fell through and now I'm SCCA membership-less with one track day under my belt (July 26 @ Thunderhill).

Now that the days of my summer are limited before I end work and return to school (without my car), I wanted to attend an auto-x at least once, and the Fresno region auto-x on August 11 is what I came up with. With that said I was wondering if anyone was planning to attend this event. My tires are on their last bits of tread, so this will probably be my last "track" event before my new wheels come in. Let me know if any of you are going.

Fresno is a little far for me usually, I'll stick to SFR and sometimes Sac. Chapter if I'm really jones-ing. I'll make it down there one day though, I hear they get alot of runs...

But if you're close enough for a Fresno event, you might be close enough for Marina Airfield near Salinas. I believe there is a NASA school and auto-x the weekend of August 24/25. For seat time you can't beat an auto-x school... (try here for more info http://www.geocities.com/nasa_autox/). NASA doesn't require membership's to run either.

Hey,

I'm a few hours north of fresno, but Castle Air Force Base (in Atwater) is fairly close to my location (at least closer than SFR). Are you planning to go to the Sac autox August 17-18? McClellan Field might actually be closer to me. 2 days of auto-x back to back sounds like a lot of fun...I wonder if they take n00bs though this late in the season...

No need to wait. There's a Sac autox with AAS this weekend,
http://www.americanauto-x.com/schedule/

and with CSCC the next.
http://www.csccautox.org/

AAS is not big on ridealongs (person who drives loses their time) but CSCC and SCCA are.

Shingo - Actually, I do plan to be @ McClellan 8/17-18. If you see the car in the avatar swing by and say hi. I've only run with Sac when they were at Cal Expo but I hear this is a real nice site. And yes they do take members & non members ($20 vs $30). You can also get your SCCA membership form on site. Most organizations take first timers or don't require memberships. SFR is unique due to the big turnouts the last few years (200-300 per single day event), they decided to restrict drivers to members only.

Also, like Alu95 said the CSCC and AAS guys are running events up there too. This calendar is usually pretty accurate or you can link off of it to the other organizations: http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/cgi-bin/schedaction.cgi

Thanks for the replies everyone; they're helping a lot.

I am strongly considering going to the AAS event this weekend (tomorrow)...is it the same event on both days? Would you recommend going to the one Sat or Sun? I visited the website and it said the series catered to "American Iron". Does that mean people will laugh uncontrollably at my FF 4-banger integra when I pull up?

I'm assuming CSCC doesn't require membership? (Just went to the AAS site and read: $30/event no membership fees)

Thanks again!

Shingo

CSCC, Sac SCCA, AAS typically run the same course in reverse on sundays with minor modifications for safety, etc. AAS welcomes all cars. It's just that their courses are usually a little more open for those V8s. CSCC is the other way around favoring Miata-tight courses.

None require any type of membership.
Sac SCCA: 4 runs + fun runs. AAS: 5 runs. CSCC: 5 runs + fun runs.

i was at the last auto-x in fresno, actually atwater which is way north of fresno near merced.... anyways it was my first event but i got tons of help from the other drivers, great group of people out there and compared to sf or la from what i've heard these events are relativitly small which means for your 20 bux you get 5 runs Anyways you should go i'll be there w/ my 6 friends all in silver wrxs -rob

Decided to bump this topic since August 11 is this Sunday, anyone else considering going? I most likely will go although I'll have to leave at around 4; do auto-x events usually finish by then?

Shingo

ps. After reading info on soloII car classes I still could not figure this out. Would I be in DSP or STS? (running stock tires for now) I know STS = street tire but I'm still unclear as to the differences between that and DSP. Which class is "easier"?
I think I'm just gonna show up with the word "novice" written across my head and let them figure it out

Judging by your sig, I would say STS and I would also call STS an "easier" class then DSP.

STS is easier than DSP at my local autox.

You'll likely be out by four unless a torrential flood of miatas arrive. The sunday crowd is usually thinner too. You can get mucho seat time if you stick around for fun runs.

STS sounds right. There's a local STS car that's trailered now. Something about 700# springs...

go AAS, they're a bunch of cool guys. i used to make an annual trip to play with them when evolution school visits and test & tune days.

don't worry about classing, hell just run OSP for now (even tough you'll get slaughtered). u can always compare time with the desired cars/classes by yourself.

ghettoRacer,

I said hi to Barbara O. for you couple events ago. She didn't hit me (which I half expected) or anything so I guess you're cool with them.
