should the exaust pipe step dont smaller before the muffler

should the exaust pipe step down smaller before the muffler
well it looks like about 2 or 2 1/2 inch pipe untill it gets to the rear wheel and then it changes to like 1 or 1 1/2 inch pipe then to the muffler and on my other crx its not liket his all same size
