Icon6 Ok.. so my omnipower coilovers SNAPPED

I've been using omnipower products for quite sometime now.. all of my friends.. i've known several people to use these coilovers and trust them.. i've used them at least a year or two.. had a set on my daily driver and my race car...

Well i was driving down the road in front of my house in the neighborhood and i heard a loud ''pop'' then i lost complete control of my car and the chassis hit the ground..

here's the aftermath:

It's a good thing i wasn't on the interstate..

HOLY ****...Thats quite a bit of damage. Call them up for sure. I believe theres a 1st and 2nd gen on omni coilovers, where the 1st gen's are known to snap. I hope you get reimbursed on such BS.

ya known issue. wonder if you will get compensated for the damage done to your car from a known faulty product. I forget who but i remember a drag racer that took a wall shot OR almost took a wall shot when his omni's snapped.

"Known issue" and "snapping in half" shouldn't coincide with one another. That's just flat out dangerous.

To me it looks like his coilovers were on the lowest possible seating which in the Omnipower instructions it strongly advises against.

I have the first gens and I have not had a problem and I push my car at times. I have had them since they first came out so it has been at least 3 years or so. I love them.

This does concern me and I am glad you are OK.

I just wonder if the low setting of the Coilover put extra pressure on the bottom of the shock body cause it to wear abnormally.

Just my .02. Definately call Omni. That is an issue that hopefully they can help you with.

Why make a product that offers a feature - in this case going low - but not allow it? If the product was not able to handle such stress...I feel that they should have not threaded the coilovers that far right?

if they strongly advise against using their part in any location of the adjustment range, they are ****ing idiots in my book. if it's an designed to adjust that way, it shoudl be safe. if the part isn't safe to use that low, they shouldn't have made it like that. ****ing retarded. you better get reimbursed.

Most companies will say the shock warranty is voided if you go past a certain level of adjustment, so maybe there is their reasoning. However, that is for damper longevity, not the structural integrity of the entire system.

I understand that. But to make a product that has a feature, only to advise consumers not to use that feature, is idiotic. It sort of shows the amount of R&D that might have went into this product.

See my previous post.

BTW, I am in no way a supporter of OmniPower, I'm not trying to defend them. I've always thought of their stuff to be 2nd rate.

No offense to anybody who owns any of their products, just my opinion. This furthers it.

i would think that if it was lowered all the way down, you'd more than likely be hitting the bumpstop on occassion. all the impact/shock would go into the shock body. then the weakest link broke. glad to see that nobody was hurt though.

it failed because theres less than 2mm thick of soft aluminum material on the shoulder of the cup.

they say it was a "bad batch". whatever that speaks of their non existent quality control... yup, they knew about it. quite frankly, i thought everyone knew about it. but thats no excuse for them not to own up to this. theyll likely just offer a replacement set of coilovers, as long as you pay $100.

i wonder how long these pics are going to stay up once the OP contacts omni...

What are those 2 pieces held together with, ****ing super glue?? jesus christ, what a shitty design. Thats scary stuff!!!! I always thought coilovers that had that design were one piece tubes. There should be a solid weld goin around to make a strong connection between the 2 pieces.

This was problem that I was first discovered when they first came. The first set that broke was on a civic drag car. It caused a lot of damage from what I could remember. Omni did offer to replace all the lower sleeves as long as you had a receipt for proof of purchase from a authorized dealer. Sorry to see this happen to you.

Somehow "free replacement" doesn't seem like something desirable.

So is there any way to see when an Omni coilover maybe a Gen 1 and when it maybe a Gen 2?
