that almost seems impossible since the spool is splined the entire way through. i put a richmond spool in a b series trans the other day and didnt have any issues.

is the trans in the car or on the bench?

He may be right, however I would use a mallet. On my car for what ever reason I have to pound the half shaft in and out. Forgot what spool I have. I say as long as it splines and goes in a lil ways shouldn't be a problem to knock it in, as much as I hate to force stuff.

B series Tranny and the axle seal is out of it right now.. I see that the splines do go all the way thru but on the intermedia shaft they are about an inch and 1/2.. and that is where the shaft stops... and a bigger hammer doesn't work either... lol...

you may want to run your fingers along the solines of the spool/half shaft and make sure there are no burs or nicks.
Turning it down isnt a bad idea but honeing the spool might be better if you ever have to replace and axle or half shaft you will have to turn them down all over again. I would msr. everything first though. Did you try the axle on the pass. side yet? did you use and astro glide?

there are no burs or nicks and my axles are at DSS right now so I can't try the pass. side.. it looks like I run out of splines on the intermedia shaft before it goes all the way in..

We have installed several of them and never had a problem. Take the clip off the pass side axle and see if that slides in, if not sounds like bur or it is in all the way.

i just had the same problem. gsr tranny. i had a richmond spool and the shaft fit fine, needless to say my dss axle kept popping out because the diameter of the richmond was off by.0030. finnnaly it popped out on the dyno a few weeks back and wiped out the splines in the spool and broke the tranny. i went and bought a tci spool and the fitment was way better but the same shaft i had used before would not go in all the way. i beat it, ground down the shoulder and tried every dam thing and it would not go in. i had my buddy bring me another shaft and it went in a lil more. but was still out about a quarter inch.... soooo since i had a spare shaft i decided to make the splines a little longer by taking a cut off wheel and making the grooves longer. it went in all tha way!!
dont know why it fit in the richmond and not the tci and i had no problem with it hitting the axle on the passenger side axle. went to the dyno the next day and made 857whp wit that shaft but i brought the spare to a machine shop and had them do it properly so it wasnt hacked. not sure really why i had the problem there must be different shafts b16 or something???

I put a richmond spool in an S1 cable transmission (B16), and had no reverse. Then I had a professional go through it and when I got it back, I bench checked it and all the gears were there, but for some reason, I bolted it into my car, and checked it with a screwdriver just as I did it on the ground (totally eliminating the potential of having a car shifter problem) and the result was no 5th gear. So for some reason, I have had only problems with 5th and reverse since the addition of the spool.

I can't figure it out. I'd hate to think there is some sort of compatibility issue, but I am just not sure.

per Joe Demetree (spelling) chuck the soft Richmond spool. it will twist the spline in the diff, making axle removal impossible.

Richmond LS spool I installed for a local customer

Twisted Richmond Joe had in his trailer and showed us.

I will take it to a machine shop, just don't understand why We As Racer's should have to Modify a part that should bolt right in.. Just my 2 Cents...
