Default Stuck with B series forever?!

So I bought an 88 CRX Si. The previous owner had swapped in a b18b and it had the most ****ED UP wiring job I have ever seen in a car. I had a couple of people inspect the car; almost everyone that's seen it is suspicious that the engine is hot.

So I was planning on swapping to a D series engine because I'm mechanically un-inclined and I figured that would be a decent engine to do my first engine swap with (it's cheap; if I screw it up, I won't have wasted too much cash).

But after having a friend come over and look at it today, he pointed out that there is a metal bracket that's been welded onto the engine bay that makes the car compatible with only B-series engines. I figured that anyone here that's done a B-series swap can validate that.

So is it true?! I'm not opposed to swapping to another B-series engine (I mean better B than D), I just figured that I actually had a choice!

you can still take the the bracket off with a big dremel and or plasma cutter.

If I cut the bracket off, will it make it difficult to install another bracket in the future if I decide to go back to B series swap?

i would stay with a b series anyways. but if u really have your mind set on a d.... find a buddy with a plasma cutter. find another ef thats scraped and take the bracket you need off of it. then pull ur motor and tow ur car to a machinist ( any pro welder ).. have them weld the new bracket on. and when u decide to go back to B, u can just buy and use the hasport kit. lol. have fun buddy....

Wow, sounds like too much work. I think I'm just gonna stick with B series. It's what I was going for in the end anyway. So it's all good.

I don't have any pics; I'll see if I can get some...gotta get a camera first.

This bracket that you speak of is just some ****** rigg ****, to swap a b-series into the crx-civic only thing is needed are aftermarket motor mounts, so what ever this bracket is you do not need, is you never need a bracket for any sway. He probaby did some ghetto **** to make the engine solid (dont move) by welding that bracket in. I would take it off with a grinder and keep the b, d series are weak sauce. Then you would have to buy stock mounts, shiftlinkage, ecu ect..

what you can do is just buy a crossmember from someone oon here or ef-honda or ebay...
Take the engine out. Take off the rear crossmember. ( im sure thats the bracket your talking about.) Replace and viola! Now D series compatible.. And yes. You will need D series shift linkage, axles ecu, etc,...

edit: I would fix the wiring as well.. before putting any engine back into the bay..
and I think i still have my stock linkage if you decide to do it. ****, part the b series out.. Head Block.. Trans.. :-)...
