I've had my Cobra for a little over a year. So far saved me once and it alerts me when medical/service vehicles are in the area. Oh, and for once the city mode actually works like they say it does! No false alarms yet...

www.radarbusters.com has the best reviews. I would take a look at laser jammers, any new cop car uses laser. When a cop gets you on laser, the radar detector doesn't go off untill he actually gets you.

they are legal, otherwise nobody would sell them, but if you do get pulled over be sure to grab it and hide it or they will find a reason to ticket you. They really **** cops off. I was saved one time goin 200 in a 110 zone, just slowed down in time and he still pulled me over and gave me hell about it, but there was nothing to give me a ticket about so I was on my way. Radars help, but you still have to drive smart and be aware of the regular hot spots for radar.

The valentine is the only one to get. Ever.
And as far as the cops go it depends. One time my cousin was pulled over but the V1 didn't go off. The cop knew that my cousin knew that he was not on radar so he could not issue a ticket.

Not true for example you can not buy a radar detector in the state of virginia and if you get caught using one it will cost you a couple hundred bucks in a ticket!!! Now if you dont believe me I invite you to drive to the boarder of virginia and check out the signs on every major highway entering the state that say "RADAR DETECTORS ARE ILLEGAL" and see it for yourself.... its up to you im just letting you know

Go with the Escort 9500ix. Best radar/red light cam detector out there!

I've owned about every radar detector on the market, over the years. At one time I could have named them all for you, brand and model...

I've owned cheap ones and expensive ones. Matter of fact, I went through a period of testing out everything I could get my hands on - use 'em for a few days - and return them for a refund, blah, blah, blah.

Personally, I prefer Bels e.g. Beltronics (LINK)

Whatever you get - buy the most expensive one you can afford!

This is one of those instances where... you get what you pay for!

You dont need to be on radar to get a speeding ticket. They can give you one for excesive speed or reckless driving.

Could you please elaborate on this statement?

Not trying to flame, but I've been using a V1 for many years now, and it really leaves a lot to be desired (even with a V1 factory update) when compared to the latest Escort 9500.

So much so, that I'm selling both of my V1's and replacing them with Escort 9500's as soon as possible.

I personaly have only used the Passport 8500 from escort i have never used their 9500 series detector. When i upgraded to the V1 i had a way better experience using the V1 In my area i had alot less false alarms and was able to program it to ignore the stupid microwave and ATM signals.... Now with that said the V1 i am using is their newest version and i have not had to upgrade yet. But this is just my .02 cents
