5th gear

My car isn't going in 5th gear. When im driving around and try to put it in 5th it goes in 3rd. Also when I am stopped and I try 5th it refuses to go in. Any idea why?

Why would it go into third? You sure you are in 5th? Could be a shifter mechanical problem. Open it up, take a look.

Does it at least get into the 5-R gate and allow you into reverse?
