Default Brian Herta to replace Alex Yoong at Minardi?

http://www.speedtv.com/auto/?lvl=3a&cat=17&id=2665

I think this is just a rumor but wouldn't if be nice to see a driver from the states in F1.
If this really happens, it could be a success for Herta because he is replacing the worst driver in F1 on one of the worst teams (as far as points go) in F1. I wonder what the odds in vegas would be for him to win the USGP?

The writing is on the wall. I was hoping for a better season for ALex Yoong. I knew of him when I was living in Japan. He ran F3000 (Formula Nippon) and I saw him race twice. I was happy when he got his test for Minardi. The backing from the Magnum corp was the real momentum behind Alex Yoong. Oh well, I race in the back of the field so I can identify with Minardi.

Ha ha ha! Herta in F1! Next thing you know, they'll let Jeffy Gordon drive an F1 car, and Juan Montoya will drive Gordon's car! Ha ha ha!

Oh ...

Uhhhh ....

Wait a second ....

Yoong, yes he should go home. But Sato? I think its too early to tell. He's shown some ability, nothing consistent, but I wouldn't be suprised if he gets his act together soon. On the other hand you can't just be a good driver to be successful in F1. You need skill, the right car, and good luck, and if you don't have them soon enough they show you the door.

I'd like Herta or JG to do well in F1. Dang, I'd like any American driver to kick *** and take names in F1. And $10 bucks says the good 'ole boys in NASCAR give JPM a nice fender full of paint a couple times. "Rubbin's racing!"

I think Herta wouldn't last qualifying in an F1 car. I saw him at the Molson Indy last year, and he was really slow, I didn't think that someone who had been driving in CART for so long could be that slow. Just because he's american doesn't mean he should be in F1. Just my opinion, and it doesn't matter.

I'm sure JPM would get bumped around, but after he gets used to NASCAR he'll pull out front just like he did at Indy in 2000, which will make NASCAR enact a rule stating "all Colombian drivers must use barn doors for rear spoilers."

If you're a betting man how about this one? I'll take a $100 that a Brazilian will win a NASCAR race in the next five years.

While you are right about the combination of mojo, talent, and timing; I think Sato has shown a lack of reverence and attention; what really brought that point home was his demolition of a vintage lotus GP car at the monaco GP; the guy may be competative, but on his terms there's a blurring of the line b/w responsibility to his team, his car, and his drive to win. Fisi, on the other hand shows all those things, and in stark contrast to Sato, and while both may be driving substandard cars -oohh substandard as a descriptive term for a GP car, weird- Fisi is a driver, Sato isn't.

It would certainly be nice to have Herta open the door for more American drivers in F1. But with the current ladder of open wheel racing being so steep and out of reach for all but a privledged few, we won't be seeing any new talent in F1, let alone CART for years.
Team owners in Toyota Atlantic and Barber Dodge are so concerned with sponsorship money, that much of the talent gets left behind in exchange for a fat check from a sponsor. We need a more accessible way into F1 and CART.
Herta, while not the most aggressive driver, could certainly hold his own in F1. He does a good job of staying out of the way, and that alone will put him in the points at more than a few racetracks.

herta is driving one of the minardi 2 seater GP cars at donnington. this sparked the rumor about him taking yoong's spot. the fact is that fernando alonso is gonna do the net 2 races for minardi.

and for the record i completely agree with bb6h22a. sato had done nothing this season to earn a spot for next season. and that poor lotus at monaco. i hope that ****** pays every red cent to fix it.

Yesterday at American Le Mans Series, Herta said something like "worst F1 will still be the best car I'll ever drive...".

Did anybody catch that?
