possibly clutch fluid... have you checked to see if its empty?

The things you have heard from those people are possible solutions. Also, it could be the clutch master cylinder. The very first thing I would do is check for major leaks and then splurge $10 on brake fluid and bleed the lines, properly of course. Afterwards, slide the clutch fork boot back while someone presses the clutch and make sure it's moving fully.
