Default Buddy Club Racing P-1 Cam gears

Hello everyone.

I have a 1995 Acura Integra SE 5spd. My motor is pretty much completely stock and I was planning on changing the Cam Gears during my timing belt change and I was wondering if I changed the cam gears to the buddy club racing p-1 or skunk 2 pro series cam gears, what would I benefit out of it? Or would I have to install camshafts also along with the cam gears?

Would installing the cam gears on their own with stock camshafts actually make performance worse? Or is tuning required etc...?

Thanks a lot!

unless you're planning to get more mods and eventually dyno tune the car, adj. cam gears aren't needed. if you really wanna learn about them do some reading on cam gear tuning, lobe separtion angles and powerbands. team-integra has some great articles.

Tuning is required if you want to see any power gains from adjustable cam gears. As stated in the last post, it would not be worth getting cam gears and a tune on a stock motor. If you do end up getting cam gears, I would reccomend the buddy club ones. I have them and like them.

Ahh... I see. Would it be ok to just install them without any adjustment and expect the car to run normal as if they were stock cam gears?

it's not going to hurt anything. many people have even taken the gears a degree without any issues on a stock ecu. as in advance the intake 1 and retard the exhaust 1. will it do much? who knows, i've heard everything from nothing to 2-3hp on a GSR.

just leave the stock cam gears on now, save the adjustable ones for when you get cams

I agree, you should probably just wait until you do more modifications and are ready for a dyno tune before you switch to adjustable cam gears. It would definitely not hurt anything to have aftermarket cam gears on a stock motor (without adjustments), but it would not be beneficial. Also, you will need to cut out the valve cover in order to tune them on a dyno. By the way, it is not necessarily a bad thing to have aftermarket cam gears on oem cams. My tuner picked up about 7 horsepower changing the timing of my stock gsr cams on my turbo integra.
