Default Ran a oil style aftermarket filter without oil... REALLY BAD?

So I am retarded and could have sworn I had the AEM dryflow filter. Turns out I didn't and have been running a normal AEM filter unoiled for about a year...

What kind of damage am I looking at? Everything seems to run just fine but when I full throttle it there is a lot of scratchy noise coming from the front end. I assumed that was normal.

It still has caught particles of dirt but I know there is a lot of small particles that might have made it through.

I feel like such a moron and ordered a REAL dryflow today.

Anyone have experience with this and have any idea if I have ruined anything?

Haha. Well I figured that much. I feel like such an idiot. I could have sworn it looked like all the dryflow pics and everything. Oh well.

Thanks though! :thumb:

usually the filters that use oil come pre-oiled, so you shouldn't be too worried.

Yeah... But the thing is...

Thinking it was a dryflow filter I used the dryflow filter cleaning process. So pretty sure it didn't have anymore oil...

Im sure your fine. I ran my civic for about a month with the intake off of my throttle body. Must have vibrated loose. Mine was fine. You might think about running some throttle body cleaner through your engine.

if it makes you feel any better, just go up a few lines and click on the FI forum and see how many 300-400+whp honda are running with just chicken fence on their turbos.

what it comes down to, you might have done a little accelerated wear on your engine but I doubt you harmed anything

So many opinions, so little facts. ...sigh...

I'd recommend contacting Blackstone Oil labs for a free sample kit and sending them a sample of your oil for testing ASAP. They can analyze it and tell you what kind of pollutants are being drawn into your motor. This will give you a *precise* idea of what kind of harm (if any) you've done to your motor.

/thread.

People that run street cars without proper air filtration are idiots. The only place folks should do this is on the track/strip when the car will only be running for a few minutes at a time.

Otherwise, anything and everything will get sucked into your car and scratch/score your cylinder walls, camshafts, crank...anything you can imagine.

At least you had some filter on the car to keep out the large particles, but I'm sure some small ones passed through.

Basically, change your oil ASAP and hope that your oil filter caught anything that made it in. I doubt you did any significant damage to your motor, however.
