heat shield for intakes
ok, here comes the questions... I want to make a heat shield, is this design very functional? How much performance gain does heat shields provide? Does any vendors make heat shields? maybe I'll buy one or copy the design
Any pictures, links and resources will be helpful, thanks!
is shielding the top of the air filter a good idea? because I wouldn't mind seeing my beautiful filter
also, I have seen the phrase "heating dect", is that a kind of material they sell in home depot?

I would reccomend using the factory airbox if you are wanting a heat shield. Either that or get a Comptech Icebox. Either way, you can't go wrong with these two. There are a number of filters that will work great in the stock box. You can always use the K&N filter, you could go with a Comptech drop in, or you could go with a Spoon Sports filter. Both the Spoon filter and the Comptech are going to be foam.
here is a simple solution that my friend and I constructed one afternoon while bored as hell. Be advised...sorry, this isn't on an acura or honda...sorry. fairly simple constrction. He wanted something simple and cheap to get the job done while waiting for a back order on an intake to come in. Simple cone filter underneith. Aluminum sheet stolen....ie borrowed from a worksite. NOT STOLEN...it was in the dumpster and was at that point considered trash. I dont not advocate anyone steal anything...EVER. Some brackets from home depot and some screws. Dont forget that attractive black paint

why do you think we are kidding?
anyways, I already have the k&n typhoon intake installed, it looks very much like the Injen in the pictures I posted. I am pretty happy with it, the car feels stronger even with the AC on, but it's a little too loud for my taste. will the comptech icebox fit my intake? I try to use the stock air box, but the filter is too big. If not, I will just make a cheap heat shield. btw, does the heat shield make a difference? any improvements would be nice.

Wouldn't a setup that has a metal heat shield hinder the performance of the car.
Underhood tempetures will cause the metal heat shield to heat up and stay warm. Wouldnt this just heat up the intake and cause a loss in power?

I have one for my car too. Bought alum sheets from Home Depot and made some. Pretty easy. Feel improvent mostly when I go from 0 throttle to WOT.
My objective is for it not to suck too much heat from the DC header is emitting. I drive it around and pop the hood, the filter is still kinda cool. The side facing the header is quite hot.

Do you have a picture of your heat shield by any chance? I'd like to see the design of it.
"0 throttle to WOT", what does WOT stand for? So you are saying it helps the low end power?

it's really ghetto so I don't have a picture of it.
3 alum sheets, 1 for the side facing header, 1 for the top, 1 for the intake tube (cut out with intake tube print on it so it stays in place) Thats it. I use duct tape to put them all together.
WOT = wide open throttle. i.e full throttle.
