Icon2 Si road noise grrr

so i had my 06' si coupe check out at the dealers about a week ago... since im still under warranty its free of charge.. i have 31,000 miles on it..but anyways my problem is that you can hear so much noise from the outside every single little crack on the road...and its a bumpy *** ride sometimes when the road isnt newish....the dealer said it was fine...they checked the suspensions and tires and said everything was completely fine...i have this gut feeling that their lieing but i wanted to know if anyone thinks their si makes that much road noise when driving... i think its the summer tires but im not sure...i just want a quiet ride...=[..it makes me mad because the dealer loaned me a hyundai elantra...and wow..its a smoother and way more quiet ride....but..i wouldnt get the car...so help would be great thanks!

I think every Honda I have ever owned has allowed a significant amount of road noise into the cabin. And that includes a 98 Civic, a 98 Integra, 2-2007 Fits, an S2000 and a 94 Integra.

I drove 3 '08 Civic Si's and I would say the Sedan's were quieter than the coupe.

If you think that dealership is hiding something from you take your car somewhere else. I would bet it is fine though.

i think your expecting too much from a honda... it definitely is not no v-dub or bimmer or something. every honda i've been in has road notice just like the guy above me said, including my moms 07 ex accord. it happens

its an si. its a sporty car, of course its gonna have a bumpy/stiff ride. Hondas do generally have more road noise. I guess they're going for more fuel economy so they use less sound deadening materials to keep weight down.

That makes sense. Since they are now making side/curtain airbags and other such safety equiment standard, the car's weight increases, so I guess they have to cut down somewhere. But again, this is still a civic, not a 7-series, you have to expect some noise to cut into the cabin.

if the road noise is bothering you, roll down your window.

The elantra has tires with taller sidewalls and a softer suspension and a motor that is not nearly as racy. The Si is intented to stimulate, not suppress the senses. For the money that you spent you can't have it all. Maybe you should've opted for a non Si model. It would've rode much nicer. When you spend more time in a car you notice more things. Ask one of your friends if they hear anything odd or excessive noises.

weird, im actually takin my car in on friday, because even on a smooth road, it makes a weird noise, its as if im goin a bump every time the wheels turn, and the sound is just plain annoying. it just started recently, so im assuming somehow the wheels got off balance.

Well, I probably spend a hell of a lot more time in my si than any of you (part of my job requires delivery) and I will admit the road noise, the moonroof rattles, rear deck rattles, and all the other noises get pretty annoying. And i believe just cause it's a civic, it shouldn't have those noises. It seems like taking it to the dealer only makes it worse cause as soon as the take a panel off to check it out... it's never going to fit on there as snug and tight as the factory. As for the stiffness... it's rough at times but no si owner complains of that when they take a corner like a bat out of hell with ease.

What tires are you on and how many miles? If they are worn that can lead to excessive noise in the cabin. And also the low profile tires that the Si comes with doesn't help either.

If your tires/suspension are good and you want to reduce the noise, try some sound deaden material like dynamat.

My FG2 is significantly quieter than my EM2 was. It's just a fact of life. You want quiet, buy a luxury sedan.

I have had low profile tires that were not noisy. And I have also had 65-series tires that were noisy.

It is more than just sidewall height. Tire compound, tread pattern, tire construction; all factors.

Usually if you can hear your tires that means they need air.

I've heard my tires since day 1, and I check my psi daily. Never had a psi lower than OEM recommended, except for when I was experimenting with PSI at the track.

I never noticed since I was bumping my two 10's till my ears were bleeding every MF day boiii.

SI's Rattle like a MF'er though, never noticed till I was outside with my subs hitting, walked around the car and heard a few rattles. Biggest was teh trunk though, the gap made it bang and be loud.

I guess I just posted a useless post, now that I read the OP's statements he's worried about road noise not rattle ha ha.

SI's road noise from what I remember was not that bad. Maybe you just got a shitty car OP, it happens.

Dynomat the whole car if it bothers you
