Who knows what the deal is with nopi...
Does anyone here know anything further about the nopi series shut down? i checked there site and can only come up with this:
"It is with great regret that NOPI Motorsports, LLC has suspended operations for the summer and fall 2008. This will include NOPI Drag Racing Series, NOPI Drift Series and the NOPI NATIONALS Motorsports Supershow. The company is undergoing an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season. The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events. Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live. The countrywide economic and industry downturn has caused a slowdown and tightening of belts. This affects everyone and companies, at all levels, and NOPI Motorsports is no different.
We understand the position this puts everyone in and we hope you can find in your heart to work with us through this terrible time. All of you are our friends and we have felt for many years that we were all a big family.
NOPI Motorsports hates this more than anyone as the many years of hard work, tradition and an industry we helped to shape would come to this.
Please watch nopi.com for future announcements."

I don't know anything about what is going on. But I think the responce you are going to get on here is: If they do come back we won't support them. Now that may hold some water but I feel people will still race with them. Do I think it will ever be the way it was in the past. No.
I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of bashing and neg comments in this thread.

I think there will be very few bashing posts, for if there is I'll just close it. We really don't need anything except constructive criticism here. Our sport needs as much positive energy as it can get, period
i am with clayton on this, and i said what i said, because of talking to people that got their asses handed to them when they folded.
if they do come around i will probably race as it is a series to race within. but it will be a little hard if gate prices are what they were last year.
i think they need to look at what adrl, not copy, but atleast cut the racers that do go to each event a little slack like allowing in a crew member or 2.

I think how they handled the cancelation of a few races and then subsequently the rest of the nopi series, left alot of people with a bad taste so to say. Not to mention the pictures from the last time this was discussed of certain management looking a little more concerned with the party lifestyle than the actual people, cars, motorsports, etc.
Just a outside perspective as I dont participate in the series besides when they come local to me but I clearly remember this being discussed here some months back. While I am thinking of it, when they drop'd the Nopi event I would have gone to somewhat locally to just drifting... I was very disappointed since this would have been the first event local to me since they consolidated nhra/ ndra. Normally there was conflicting events and it killed this but not this year, but sadly it became drift only... so yea I used my time to do something else, drifting is played out after MAYBE the first 90 seconds for me.
Canceling races on short notice or no notice to some for weather, when it turned out to be pretty nice from what I remember being posted... left alot of people high n dry. Then canceled the rest of the season based on weather, money troubles, economy, or whatever... people lost faith if they had not already in the slowly down spiraling events catering to everything else but the drags.
My 2 cents.
Edit: Dont get me wrong though, anything to support the cause is good and if they do come back with their ducks in a row... more power to them. Anything that helps the scene and our industry is good. In the same turn if they are not going to come back with a better plan than that of recent, to me races like the outlaw race or others, boti series, etc seem like a great way to move forward while focusing attendance, cars, etc into other events/ series.

I hope that people can go without bashing for once and put forth some sort of positive contribution to this thread and if not hopefully a moderator will close this asap!!! I know that alot of the racers that I have talked to are asking the same question and cant find any real answers like are they coming back and whats going to happen with all the sponsors. Personally I have a feeling that a merger between two big import promoter/event planners is in the making. Being that HIN is closing there doors too and will not post a listing of next years events. But thats just my silly conspiracy theroy. I would like to see nopi come back with a lower gate price but i know just as well as everyone else if they do come back the gate prices will be going up and all crew members will have to paid for and I do agree with you that if they do come back there will be a group of people that wont go but i think a majority of people will continue to attend the events and continue to race!!
I don't think that NOPI will be back in 2009. They have burned too many bridges with sponsors within the industry. If I were in the business I would be not be inclined to give my money to a series that folded the previous season.
As for the racers saying they won't support them is a different story. When I paid my entry fee I don't consider myself to "be supporting them", I'm paying for the oppertunity to race. I'm getting something out of it. I'm doing it for me, not for them. We are a self sponsored race team, and we made every event untill they folded. Yes I know they lost money a rained out events, but guess what so did we. We were sitting there in the rain with them at every event. It was the abruptness that has left a bad taste in everyone mouth. NOPI had e-mail address, phone numbers, and mailing address for every comitted racer, they should have notified us personally. I feel as thought even though they pissed off a lot of racers we will race when ever and where ever we have the chance. We the racers would probably only race NOPI local events, but I don't see many of us making the commitment to follow a series with them, when we feel like they broke a commitment with us this season.
Just my thoughts. Every ones is different.

havent been to a nopi event in a few years this is news to me. if they did indeed burn sponsors im sure it will be tough to make a come back. the racing scene dont want companys that rurn tail, they have made mucho money over the years. sorta like walking away from the table after you won a big hand just so you dont lose it again.
I do realize that most of the people that were racing the event were only going to the local event but i do know there are a several shops/teams that did do the traveling to alot of the events on the east coast. (Ie: Clutchmasters and others)
Now with that said i know those teams are greatly effected by the shutdown.
I do agree that i didnt pay my entrys to support nopi.. I paid entries to make my passes and have chances at the great Winners POT!!!
I will say that if they were to come back i would race the series again but as other members have already said i dont see how they could come back after setting fire to every bridge they ever crossed!

Dude they suffered like the rest of the WORLD. They took huge hits even hosting the events they did. But then it became to much to bear. Dude you cant blame NOPI for anything they are having a terrible finacial year like everyone else. You guys need to relax. If they come back I will race 100 percent with them as well as other series and events. As stated above they do need to relax on cover charges for racing, if they expect to make a come back. You guys just need to forget this terrible year and if they come back race if they dont find another series, or events to race at.
And yes big race teams were effected, but so was everyone else. I just look at it like this they are going to have to make it bigger and better. Since I'm sure they keep track of how many people followed and anticipated the OUTLAW event. They are going to have to make every event like that if they expect old racers, and new racers to attend. This is just my .51 cents lol.

Lots of people have bad years, that has NOTHING to do with them leaving racers and sponsors hanging days before a race and not letting people know the outcome of the series when they knew long ago what was coming. They took our money for years, lots of it. Then they leave the people that supported them out in the cold with no explaination.

I agree completely because i cant say i am mad about them shutting down, its how they did it that i cant agree with. A series with that much involved to run takes just as much to properly shut down and that is where they lacked and appeared to cut losses and run instead of respecting everyone else involved with them. That is what kills future chance of them being succesful again like many others already said.
Yes, we don't know and nobody there let anyone know what did happen. They just shut down and left us in hotels with no race for the weekend. If people have troubles, fine explain it and people will understand. If you don't then I will not support you in the future. Jump the gun? It's been months with nothing other than a simple statement on a website.
Dude we dont run huge *** companies that take in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year we dont know what exactly happened. SO dont just jump the gun and bash them. We barley have anything in this sport as it is. And bashing them wont help and saying you wont support them is lame seriously we need series and we need events to keep this sport alive. thats all I'm saying
Everybody here will agree that we need big series races in the sport and we all want the series to stay alive. I think what they were trying to say was that Nopi was asking for the S**T STORM by pulling out in the manner that they did. (IE:through secret hush hush meetings and keeping everything about the shut down on back channels) Instead of being upfront with all the supporters and sponsers and letting them know whats going on and keeping them informed in the situation the the series not the company was facing... To my knowledge Nopi.com is still in opperation and still selling parts.
(JUST TO CLARIFY WHAT I STATED BEFORE THIS THREAD WAS CREATED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE STANDING OF THE SERIES NOT FOR BASHING THE COMPANY OR THE SERIES IF THATS WHAT YOUR HERE FOR START YOUR OWN THREAD!!!)
My advice to Nopi if they decide to make a comeback of any sort:
Rent the track and advertise events at facilities you KNOW have historically had good turnouts (for racers AND spectators). We're talking about PBIR, Englishtown, Atco, Budd's Creek, and maybe VMP. If this happens, enough of us will come out and race. We're not talking about a series. We're talking about a few track rentals. Put up a decent purse, with decent classes and fair rules and we will come out to race. They should be able to read a forum and know what would be successful. Street all-motor, all-motor, spfwd, and Modified might be enough to keep everyone happy.
Also as a side note.....I feel that a lot of us would be more likely to forgive Nopi if they would come out and apologize for their leaving us out in the cold. I for one would be willing to listen to any reasonable explanation they might have for what happened.

Well the NHRA had a good year this year. Theres nothing wrong with import drag racing the issue is knowbody knows about it. Oh wait and its not been taken to the market the right way.
Just my out look.
Just my out look.
we could blame it all on the economy, but both the march meet and the scsn were bigger than ever this year... monster events.

I dont care of NOPI comes back. We already have BOTI, IFO and other local events along with outlaw races. We need to focus on getting everyone to BOTI and not trying to revive a series that had financial problems. We need one national series with a points chase, decent payouts, and proper marketing. Just my .02 on the topic.
