Buyers beware of seller : crx18c1
I am not creating this thread to accuse this guy of being a thief or scammer, just warning other potential buys to be aware of his shady practices. Here is my story:
Basically I bought a motor from the aforementioned seller. Had had a thread advertising a couple motors for sale that he had got in trade for his motorcycle. One was i B16 swap and one was A 98 GSR swap with unusually low mileage for a very fair price. I decided i wanted to go out and look at the motor/ buy it. He said the motor was in silver spring but it wasn't. It was actually in DC but that wasn't really a problem. Then me an 2 friends get there, and he tells us its at his friends house up the street. He also asked if i would give his friend $1100 and give him the remaining portion of the money since his friend owed him some money. At this point, it seemed like a pretty straight deal.
Then we got to his friends house and it got really shady really fast. Basically, the motor was in a shed in a dark back yard. No one besides the "seller" spoke a lick of English. Keep in mind this was advertised as a stock 98 gsr complete swap. The entire deal had to be translated through the "seller."
Here is what i can describe of this motor upon first inspection:
wrinkle red valve cover with the timing cover cut off. The motor had no plastic timing covers. Had some aftermarket cam gears but overall it looked fairly clean. I knew this motor wasn't stock by this point, but that didn't mean it was beat so i took it. It did not include the ECU that was advertised in the post.
Fast forward to the next day. Actually get to look at this motor in some good light. I notice the head is stamped "94" and i know the block is OBD2 because of the CKF sensor. This was also a B16 transmission that was attached. At this point i had already decided that the motor was kinda shady, so i decided to go ahead and do a basic rebuild. Bearings, rings, seals belts, etc.
Upon tear down:
- The ACT clutch was down to the rivets
- Flywheel had no pilot bearing
- Head looked fairly clean inside, but the caps were nearly black from oil stains so these weren't from this head originally
- The o-ring on the #3 cap was MIA.
- The timing belt was brand new
- Head bolts were hardly torqued
- The head gasket was brand new and never ran. You can run your finger around the edge of the bores and there is NO carbon
- The block was disgusting. All a VERY dark brown. everything was stained
- The oil looked nearly brand new, also never ran.
I contacted the seller and he has sort of been avoiding the situation. He will answer the phone 1 out of every 10 times and say he is doing what he can yada yada yada. All i have asked for is a small amount of compensation. A few hundred dollars would better this but all he keeps saying is that I got a good deal. FALSE! I was not sold what was advertised. Please do not let this guy rip you off. He has numerous cars, motors and transmissions for sale on here.

I helped tim pick up this motor and i helped him tear it down. This motor was obviously thrown together. Hopefully this dude comes through and this thread can be deleted.
OH YEAH! The lock nut on one of the valve tappets was missing as well

Keep the bashing going. I took you to someone who was selling it. He gave me the info and I posted it like decscribed. I have seen the gsr run days before sold and knew it ran good.
I promised the buyer either money back or a trans and he agreed. As you all know money and transmissions don't grow on trees. I ripped the seller a new one and I no longer do business with him anymore.
I understand the buyers frustration. THE MOTOR WAS NOT MINE but I witnesses the motor running well.
Keep the bashing going but every product I sell that's mine always ends being a very good product. And every car I sell is top notch unless explained otherwise.
I understand the buyers frustration and I will let you and all bash on. Gl

You say you had seen the motor run days before. So why did you advertise a "Stock 98 GSR swap" When obviously you had to of known it wasn't? The way the deal went down, its seems you pocketed $600 and didn't tell your friend how much the motor was really being sold for. So where is that $600 now?
How did you see the car run when that head gasket had never been ran on? It wasn't even an OEM head gasket. I've never seen a stock integra motor with "55k miles" on it need a brand new head gasket

No one is bashing by any means, only looking for simple logical answers that you are responsible for answering as the seller of any item. Seriously, you say it ran? Without that o-ring on the #3 cam cap the head would have been done. So explain how you saw this motor run

This is far from a bash thread dude I regret buying from you and just want to notify others of the situatuion they could possibly be put in if they buy from you. Ive seen your car it's legitimate yea. But this deal did not go down how it was supposed to and you know that.
And i dont know how you "ripped me a new one". You just complained that you didnt have any money and hated dealing with B Series parts. Just sounds like bad business honestly sir.
what's funny is I didn't sell you ****. I was the middle man bro. It's ok though. I said I would help u even though it's not my problem. I'm still gonna get you that trans whether you like it or not. Your right bro I don't like to deal with b-series **** but I know if it was my **** it would be top notch.
I'll get the trans and call you to pick it up and if you choose not to pick up a trans that I'm offering you, then keep complaining.

as you all can see I'm trying to help him and have been but **** hasn't come up...but rest assure if it's purchased from me it's straight and legit.
I'll get that trans even though you text me "your a piece of ****"....it's all good.

And you still have not answered how you saw it run wel when its obvious the motor has never ran in its current shape and if it did it wouldnt have lasted more than a few miles. A new trans is useless at this point. How about you reimburse him the parts and labor for the rebuild. And yes he did buy it from you. You walked with $600 in your pocket didnt you?

I got you the deal. He gave me $600 because he owed me. Again you didn't buy it from. It wasn't my motor. Just come back and we can settle this **** face to face like men. Stop talking all that ****. I did see it run. You took it apart. All I know you could be lying and just trying to bash my **** to make money back. Make sure of has a vin?? The **** wasn't my motor you sack of ****!
Talk all that **** face to face bring your boy friends.
I told you I would get you a trans. You didn't have to rebuild ****. You decided to rebuild the ****. It wasn't blown I saw it run and idle perfectly. Take that elsewhere. Bring the motor back then I'll give you your money back. Come bring it by. I gave you options. If you don't wanna comply then shut the **** up! You have my number. You know where my **** is. Bring it.
You resort to violence because you know you're in the wrong. Dude i haven't even taken this trans apart yet. Who knows whats wrong with that. At no point in your post, did you mention selling the swap for a friend.
I have no pictures of the block before it got taken to the machine shop to have it cleaned. But there is no denying the head is a 94 and the block is AT LEAST from a 96. As well as the missing timing covers, cut valve cover, beat *** clutch and all. If anything at all YOU KNEW THIS MOTOR WAS NOT STOCK and you advertised it as if it were. False advertisement, regardless of who was actually selling the motor. You did not list his number or contact info. Only yours. We met YOU first, and then went to his house.

This dude is a really shady *****...look at the cars hes selling total **** piles. I was pretending i wanted to buy one...he said "if you come down here and lowball my dogg will shoot you!" probably a lowlife immagrint like the people with this shady motor, i would consider it a loss man. live and learn....you should of been able to tell from how this guy talks that hes shady, also as soon as you got the run around on the motor thats also another sign...I feel for you though, been there done that. its just better not to associate yourself with these types of people as they will do anything unlawful for a dollar.
The funny thing is dude is pretty cool in person. Has no type of accent or anything. Its not a total loss. Its a pretty complete build now and should fun pretty well now all the ghettoness is gone. Oh yeah, the pictures taken of that silver k-series ek are at the house where this motor was bought. I know for a fact the car is not his. When we were there he was finishing up the black eg and bitching about not having a car until that one is done and ****. But he advertises it as his own. Most of that car is probably stolen/ payed for with money from stolen parts
No, i saw that thread when that guys car was stolen but this motor was bought before that was stolen. Plus, the condition of this motor, no one would want it in their car if it even ran.
i was talking about the people in the group...either way i hope everything works out for you. GL with the motor build i hope the mounts points on the block and head arent stripped...i had to deal with that before suck!
