Default car stubles, backfires, and stutters???

Hi everybody. My Accord is freaking out. It's a 94 EX 5 speed. It's been sitting a lot lately, but I finally decided to start driving it again. I have a 45 mile drive to work. When I started to work, the car ran okay, but it seemed like it didn't have as much power as it should. Didn't think much of it, just thought I'd gotten to used to the Teg. The further I went, I'd notice that rowing through the gears, it seemed like I'd have to rev it more and more. By the time I was within 5 miles of work, it barely wanted to run. When I pushed the gas it would stumble it's way up the rpms. When I'd try to pull from a light, it would hickup and buck, and backfire through the throttle body. It's seems like it's not getting enough gas.

I started by throwing a new fuel filter on it, but no change. I don't have one to borrow a fuel pressure tester from, and I can buy a pump for what I'd pay for a good tester. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

I know my accord had similar problems, but is a 99 v6. I never had it backfire though...It turned out to be a bad main relay.
I replaced my plugs and wires at the same time also, maybe youre not getting a strong enough spark.

Hello. How long did your car sit for? It might very well be the fuel pump if it sat a longtime. Fuel turns in to a syrup like substance when it sits a long time. If not that, I would do a tune up by starting with the plugs. Take the dizzy cap off and visually look at the inside of the cap and rotor edge to see if there is alot of contamination. It could also be your coil which is inside your dizzy if I am not mistaken.

Is there an engine light on? find out the code/codes and that could solve your problems.

Does Autozone still loan tools in your area, pressure gauge? It does sound like fuel, clamp off the return hose from the fuel rail going back to the fuel tank, this is called dead head pressure, dont drive like this for too long but it should prove out a fuel delivery problem.

Actually wait till you have a severe problem, then clamp off the hose, prove or disprove on a short test drive, then release the clamp. Do not kill the engine while clamping, something in the filter or in the tank may float away if the engine is turned off.
