Default 2009 Buell Lightning CityX XB9SX

Just got to an article about this thing coming out, not a whole different between this one and last years model, except now it has a black frame instead of silver... TEH HOTNESS!!

I'm sorry people, I know alot of you guys dont like Buell (for some reason, that I can't find out) but this thing is gorgeous.. its an all around great bike, all of the bugs have been pretty much been taken care of with this model..

I'm starting to think that I'd rather want to finance this bike, instead of finding a used 01 SV650 like I wanted to before.. Summer time? Tempting.

The bugs have been worked out? So they finally put gas in the gas tank and stopped putting oil in the swingarm? How about a real braking system? :D

It's an interesting twist on a motorcycle, but for the money, it's not worth it (to me). That new Rotax engine should be spread throughout their lineup....not just the 1125.

Are there any drawbacks or advantages to the rotor-around-wheel setup and also the belt-driven axle?

Did they make that blue color available to the 1200 version yet?

First bike? If so pass on financing. That 650 will put it to shame and for less. That thing vibrates so much the turn signals will dance for you.

It's not something I would get as a first bike, that's for sure. You'll have a much easier time getting a more forgiving bike and riding it for a while before moving on to a Lightning. It would make a pretty cool second bike, though. I've been thinking about getting a Lightning or Uly myself. But it's not worth going into debt for in my books.

The inside out rotor lets them build a lighter wheel, but it does kind of concentrate the weight at the edge. The belt drive doesn't need to be oiled every 600 miles like a chain, which last summer meant I was oiling my chain every week. I'm not sure if the belt absorbs more power or weighs more, as they're pretty rare on all out race bikes - but that is not what the Buell is.

haha, we could only hope..

The rotax is nice, they have the 1125CR coming out now, thats a more "fighter" style 1125 opposed to the race style they came out with recently.

Its ok.. the engine should be spread out more but, its costly from what I hear.

Yea thought more about it, not a first bike. I need to finish paying off my car and I'm probably just going with the 650. I cant find them for $3000 or less all over in great condition, so I'll just stick with that for my first. Second bike? Hell... fock.. yes!

not a fan of that engine in a sportbike, not a fan of the silly brakes, the frame design, gas location etc etc. gabe nailed it...interesting interpretation of a motorcycle, but totally neutered by mother harley when they bought out Buell.

it's kind of like marrying your cousin, yeah you'll get laid, but the results might be a little odd.

I like those bikes, I just hate the powerplant in the xb9's. Would be fun to back road rip around on though.

Both of my roommates have xb9s and have owned other bikes. Ones owned an FZ6 and the others owned a CBR..

They love the torque out of their Buell. Simple bike in a sense, everythings centered, everythings balanced, easy to ride, power where its need. So it doesnt rev up to 18k and doesn't go past 140mph... but.. its still quick, it handles like a champ and is great on back roads.. and I think they look nice.

I just don't think they're that bad of a bike imo

They're not really meant to be. It's more like a substitute for a Ducati Monster or BMW R series.
