Default engine running warm on a 90 accord ex

neither of the cooling fans turn on unless the A/C is running. i hate A/C and i much prefer windows, but when the car is warm and i stop at a light, the cooling fans dont turn on as they normally would under such conditions and my temp gauge rises slighty (from 1/2 to closer to 3/4). however, when i turn on the A/C, the temp. drops immediately into normal range. any input/ideas/info/suggestions? thanks again. peace.

Have you checked the coolant level? If the car does not have the proper level of coolant, the fan wont turn on.

when was the last time you replaced your thermostat? i would start with that first. that usually is the problem. also, jack the car up and check underneath the car to see if you are leaking any coolant. the o=ring to the water pump on my car has started to leak, and im replacing that this weekend

I forgot to say that you may have a bad radiatior cap. They are relativley inexpensive, and too easy to be looked over.

dont worry, i bought the helms the same weekend i bought the car. wouldnt buy another car without one. amazing stuff in there. i think ill replace both ECT switches (thermo housing and water pump housing) and see where that takes me. i actually ran into a Danco Transmission mechanic at work tonight who has a 92 ex and he said it might be those switches. i just did a flush and fill so id like to not have to drain everything again to replace the thermo. but i guess i gotta do what i gotta do. thanks for your help.
