hi i have two sets of wheels and tires, both are 15 x 6.5 rims, one has 195/50's the other has 205/50's on it, i know one is 10mm wider, but are both tire sizes ok (safe) for this size rim? is one too narrow, or too wide? i have a set of rota circuit 8's i'm wanting to put tires it, it is the set currently with the 205's and i want to continue with that size, but i just want to make sure that the current owner that put them on there chose a safe size, i think it will be ok, never had problems, just wanting to make sure there wasn't a rule that says its not ok or out of the limitations of the wheel size.

 

195/50-15 and 205/50-15 can both be mounted on 15x6.5 rims without any problems. Most 195/50-15 tires are approved for mounting on rims 5.5-7.0 inches wide, and 205/50-15 on 5.5-7.5.

If this is for your '89 Civic, 195/50-15 is close to the outer diameter of your stock size. 205/50-15 is about 3 percent larger, and will make your speedometer and odometer read lower than before by that same percentage.

 

ok, well i'm putting the rota's and 205's on my integra, currently they are on the 89 hatch and was on the eg before that and didn't rub or anything so i figure they are ok, but thanks you have been much helpful, now i feel comfortable about buying them, plus believe it or not but we have a pop of like 75k people here and tons of tire shops and only one keeps 195/50's in stock, but alot have 205/50's so it more convenient for me, and if i ever have to go in the shop that has the 195/50's again, i'm gonna end up killing someone, ha --- they dragged my spair tire across the trunk of my teggy and scratched it all up, then denied it.
