my friend said its by break pads because they make those noises when they are old.. but would it cause the car to shake up and down? and the axle looks fine.. is there anyway of telling if its broke without taking it all the way out?
you described the noise as clunking noise, not a screcking noise like brake pads sound like.. investigate more.. if its the cv boot or axle it would be hidden from plane sight.. dont know what to tell you but my first thought is that it was the axle or cv boot.. good luck either of them are very cheap and you can do yourself if you have the proper tools..
