Default I  UPS

UPS was good to me yesterday!

On my doorstep I found

01 ITR Intake Cam
Toda Gen 1 Cam Gears
Icebox w/Comptech filter
Exedy Clutch kit
Fidanza Flywheel

Just waiting on the slow boat to get my Power FC and ATS FD to me

Nice stuff

How slow is the boat? Most ocean shipments from Japan to US West Coast take 14-21 days (depending on carrier), even for LCL (partial container) shipments.

I'm surprised for such pricey items you didn't opt for Express Mail Service (EMS); Japanese postal service is incredibly efficient, and it's not as expensive as you might think...

haha, the boat is a 2-3 week wait so not too slow just no 2nd day delivery. And I opted for what my supplier could get me at the best prices.

Anyone have a guess what kind of numbers I can put down with all this on the dyno? I also have a JDM 4-1 Header and cureently an AEM which will stay if it out does the Icebox in testing.

Might have to beg Yack to help tune the power FC.

Goal is 185-190 whp and 130 ft-lbs tq. Reasonable?

I'd think that's possible.
But, you might need my SMS cat-back exhaust as well, and an FPR.

Having the PowerFC will definitely help, but I'd say it's a bit optimistic; Kenny (BlackR) barely hit 190whp with Toda Bs and the Hytech header (albiet with stock ECU).

Better to tune for a nice fat midrange rather peak power anyways; PowerFC sounds tasty!

I was basing my numbers on others and had not really seen Ken's numbers.

I will definitely opt for mid rang over peak but hard to measure mid range on a message forum.

I figure Ken is missing a lot of power with B's not having the upped compression as well. Hopefully the Power FC will be a help. Just weaiting on the Datalogit to release!

I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have never went with cams while keeping stock compression. It's just not worth it, IMO. You see gains, but not near what you'd see by bumping up. Hell, the coolest thing about the Spec B setup to me was the idle! Not really, but...

If you're going to do it, do it right. Build that fawker right from the get go.

who may build for H1 next year, depending on fundage

Gotta agree with you Jason.

After this my next mod is some time off. I will do CTR pistons and bump comrpession when I get ready for the timing belt at the same time.
Then shop for cams if I feel mlike I need them.

For now it is all about as much power as possible on Stock cams. I got the 01 ITR intake to catch back up with the 00/01 R's.

Also I am using a stock exhaust just FYI

With all due respect, ... come on now!
The stock exhaust is one of the first things that should go.
Apparently George's ITR did 182 hp with just the JDM header/CAT/SMS exhaust.
Yes, it's really that good.

You can have my polished SS SMS cat back for about $700 plus some gas monef for delivery, and maybe lunch. Ed

BTW -- this is the very same exhaust that was used for the "great header test".

.....188whp on spec b's does not equal 188whp on stock cams.

Sorry, but b's + ats final = bad ***** (shut yo mouf) at autox...

I don't think you'll see much over even 180whp with stock exhaust - maybe with open header..... FC is overkill for that setup imho, but if you're planning for future mods that makes sense - just don't expect *too* much out of it.

And as always, get your dynojet plots on disc so you can email them and compare using the dynojet viewer.

Good luck!

I always get my dyno plots. I have the first 22 I will get the next 22 for you

My 2000 Type-R made 172 whp and 122 ft-lbs with just and AEM and look above for what Georges R made with just bolt ons. Realizing dynojets vary.

Mike K, and a few others in that Skunk 2 cam post are making mid to high 190's on stock cams and some on stock exhaust. What would you all suspect aftermarket exhaust is going to net? 4-5 whp? OPen header is one thing but an exhaust system seem to be minor for the fact I have to combat going insane. I have considered a custome 2.5" B-pipe with stock muffler.

I am at 170 with my AEM and JDM 4-1 and shows 6 whp down on my 2000. I hope to see 4-5 hp from the intake cam, and will hope to tune in 9-10 peak with some good midrange with cam gears and a Power FC.

Never said it wasn't overkill. I tried a VAFC and the thing would not work in my car. Used a power FC from a friend and it worked beautifully as well as has lots of options I liked. Future plans would be no more than Toda A's, CTR Pistons and if I got a daily driver an exhaust.

I see 180 as easyily attainable although I might be let down.

Ken, Forgot to say once I get to 180 with my ATS I will take on the spec B's no problem at Auto-X

Edit: take on at auto-x

I may be completely mistaken, but I think George's dyno was at Curry's Automotive, and that a Mustang dyno was used.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Additionally, I noticed a definate/big improvement in 4th and 5th, pasing wise w/o needing to downshift, after Dave installed his/this exhaust (using a DC sports USDM 4-1 and test pipe).
I need to "dispose" of it and the Mugen computer since neither will be needed with the 3" Thermal and Hondata set-up for the upcoming turbo installation.
As I said, I'm willing to bring it down to Tennessee since the b-pipe is one piece and the shipping would be substantion, and I don't mind the road trip when time permits. Ed

Ed,

Price is more than my pocket book would agree with right now. Although if you make it to the NC meet in sept I might scrap a few $$'s together by them.

I personally have found that the R is more than I care fro volume wise stock. I hate the noise colume of the AEM and hope the Icebox I have makes as much power cause the AEM will go to the curb.

I am willing to lose 5 whp for an exhaust most days but I might get over it once I am tuned and making 183. Then I coudl catch up with the B's

I think the ATS will more than compensate for the lose power in 4th and 5th.

Mustang dyno you say? that would explain those numbers. my 172 was a dyno jet.

Anyone ever figured the drive train loss on a mustang dyno so we could compare mustang to dynojet?

Hey Trey-san,

Brown definitely brought you some nicey-nice toys. I know you've got family in Chattanooga, but why don't you haul your **** down to the Atlanta area where the real action is? Seriously, Mel would have no trouble getting a teaching job and you, well, I'm sure you could find sumthin!

Good luck with your upcoming mods!
