Ball joint protection (Corey look here) (dial up go away)
Will, nice pics. Hope it's an effective solution to ball joint protection. But how are you going to protect against that missing brake rotor problem you've got going on there....?

It is like header wrap but a little thinner. The adheasive on the non-silver side is very good for holding the 'tape' on.

I have 2 cars to do before yours... if there is any left... I will stop by.

what is the heat resistance in degrees on the tape
The heat conductivity thru the parts is the main problem... and can only be fiex with ducted air or liquid cooling.

Do you think that leaving the heat/dust shield on would help?
...but not even NASA (Aerospace version) could make brake pads that would last more than one track day on my car... i.e. the shields had to come off.

LOL! Get one of the Florida we-todds to send you some shuttle tiles - maybe those would hold up

Have you been having a problem with ball joints/boots?
I would think the tie rod and lower BJ move enough to shred the wrap after a while?
Track time will tell.
AdamITR (who let me know where to get the tape) had his joints wrapped up at the Summit Race... maybe he can tell us how well it lasts.

The box suggests using small wire to wrap around the tape at temps over 250F or so.
I will give this a try at CMP and see how well it holds up.

do you need me to bring some down to cmp? I have ALOT
i wonder if the heat radiation you are preventing outweighs the lesser cooling rate by covering the pieces from air. its probably better, but i just wonder.

Will - Sounds like some ducts would do ya good...I'm actually looking into doing this myself, just trying to find a good way to approach it. D has a good idea with the euro fog light inserts.
So having the shields on will tear up the brakes quicker? Didn't really think about it, but makes sense since the heat would stay near that calipers.

Just speculating -
If most of the heat is transferred from the brakes is through the metal parts and not from the surrounding atmosphere, won't putting reflective tape actually keep the heat in the metal parts and ball joints, rather than letting air get to them to cool? It is almost like you are insulating the parts...
