Icon6 88 dx transmission problem

well i need help with my car its a 88 dx crx with a d15b. the transmission is acting weird, for one thing its automatic and one day it just completely kicked out of gear. When i put in drive it wont go in order for it to move i have to shift it down to 1st gear and then shift it like if it was standard. It will stay in third until i get to a stop light, then it kicks out and i have to do it all over again. Should i just get a new transmission or what else can i do to fix the problem.

First, check your front and rear trans mounts. Mine were bad and that caused me to have some oddball issues, especially coasting and at light throttle.

Beyond that.... Either pay a specialist to look at it, or replace the trans yourself... I actually have the good auto trans out of my '88 DX, including the torque conveter, flexplate, shifter and all that other stuff since I just converted to manual. Would love to get rid of it.....

The manual change isn't complicated, but unless you really have everything set and ready to go, it'll be a pain in the butt. There aren't a lot of good instructions or write ups out there. You need to do some minor electrical modifications, change the ECU, change the trans mounts and trans mounting brackets, change the flywheel/clutch, change the pedal assembly, change the shifter/linkage etc. It SHOULD be a 2 day job if you're handy, but it took me a couple of weeks (granted, I didn't work all that hard on it)

I would change the fluid. Run a qt or two of transmission fluid to help clean out some of the old deposits.
