Just installed JDM 4-1/Carsound cat... is it supposed to do this?
Alright... there's a lot of fumes coming off of the header but that's probably because it's a brand new header right? Also... after I ran the car it smells too... probably because of the new cat right? Well.. I'll see how long it smells, should be broken in in a couple of days.
Man... that **** SCREEEAMS when VTEC is engaged. I sounds aggressive, raspy, and it feels a lot torquier. I can actually feel VTEC kick in. hehe it's amazing what that little 4-1 can do
Let me know what you guys think...

It's normal that smell. The header has grease on it to prevent rusting in storage.
VTEC is more aggressive but in my car the torque has also increased between 4k rpm and 6k rpm, so the VTEC kick was less pronounced.
Did you reset the ECU?

No I didn't.. but I'll do it right now. I don't know but I can definitely feel the kick. Thanks for the info...

did you just bolt the carsound to the oem exhaust?? what size carsound did you get, the large or the smaller? what serial or model number is the carsound?? thanks man
I got the carsound cat from Dave@SMP it's the bolt on kit to the stock exhaust. I got the 94066 with 2 bungs for the O2 Sensor... not sure if it was long or short...
Yup, smoke is normal from the new header for a few days. Especially so, if you used liquid wrench (eg wd-40) to loosen the old bolts.
Also, if you haven't already done so, advance the timing to 18deg.
Next mod should be v-afc to fine tune that biznatch.

My header smoked like crazy after we put it on. Trey (Asahi) and I stopped at a light and it looked like the engine was on fire.

I just got my Carsound Cat from Dave as well... waiting for the weekend to slap it on! The JDM 4-1 I have is used but in great physical shape! How long did it take you to do the install Skafia?
What will a VAFC tune? I have no knowledge of tuning whatsoever, what would I do with it?
Installation time: 6-7 Hours with help from a friend. The hardest part about installation was removing the Cat... man... took us and hour and a half for 2 bolts off the stock cat. We also had to take the exhaust system off of the rubber mounts to lower the system. Man... I am sore all over... laying on the ground for 6-7 hours blows... but it was well worth it!

The V-AFC is a fuel controller and VTEC controller.
You can richen/lean your mixture using it and adjust when your VTEC engages and disengages.

I understand what it does... but how do you go about adjusting it, how do you know where VTEC engagement should be... or how much fuel/air to mix?
Do you need to tune it with this on the dynojet to see how it should be tuned?
I got the JDM 4-1 (Honda).

shouldnt take that long just for a header and cat install...can be a bitch but 6-7 hours is craaaaaaaaazy long. i guess it just depends how much of a bitch the old setup is to get off, but I would say 2-3hrs should be long enough, most of that time spent getting the old system off.
Heh... most of the time was spent taking the old setup off.. combined with weak arms and not the right tools.... (plus taking our time) and triple checking everything... it was time well spent!
I forgot to take pictures of the header before it turned brown ;(.

Snap I have literally finished the sam install about an hour ago (mine was DC SS JDM 4-1 and CarSound cat supplied by IPSRacing). Odd smells but I remember it being like that on another car I replaced the exhaust on and it goes quite quickly.
I am not getting a kick for vtec like you but I already have an APEXi PowerFC installed and the vtec point has been moved down about 300rpm as it seems to give a smoother cross over that way (on my car anyway). I did find myself hitting the limiter a couple of times by "supprise" so high rpms have definately improved. I'm off to add a couple of degs to the timing on my PowerFC now

Final product...
I wonder how much gain I got from the header/cat combo? Anyone DYNO this setup and seen the numbers?

Did anyone keep the heatshield that goes above the stock cat on the car after the carsound cat install? I forgot to put it back on but it seems like it wouldn't fit with the new cat....
