Default I think its my thermostat

Ok so i get out of work and hop in my car and warmed it up. It warmed up fine with no problem... i turned on the heat and started driving... the air started to get warmer and after 5 minutes or less of driving it started to overheat. I turned off the heater and turned it back on and it went back to its normal driving temperature. But the thing is the air got cold quick. I think its my thermostat but I just wanted to confirm before i go buy one.

I just changed the thermostat today. The car heats up to driving temp fine but when i turn on the heat it starts off warm but it gets cold again and when I turn it off the temp gauge slowly gets to the middle... when I turn off the fan the temp goes back to normal. Also I notice that there is a change in the power of the fan when i turn on n turn off the headlights... This all started after I changed the battery in my car because the previous one died due to the cold weather.
