Icon2 S2k hit while parked ... ideas on repair/cost?

Hi,

My S2k was hit while parked out on the street a couple nights ago. Although it seems pretty innocent, I think it's probably more significant than it seems. They hit right at the rear quarter/door area on with their big Ford Expedition bumper.

Anyone have any experience with something like this and/or ideas on cost to repair? It's out of their insurances pocket but I'm just sitting here curious! I'm worried about this repair because I don't think it's as simple as just replacing the fender and door. It looks like that is all welded to me.

See attached. Thanks in advance!

well, youre looking at a new quarter panel and dor...the hit was right on the body line so if your insurance tries to get a body shop to fix the door it wont look right...insist on a new door...all and all it looks about 3k-4k worth of damage

Ya that's around what I figured. I won't be letting them do repairs on either - whoever I pick must agree to replace both for the exact reason you mentioned - no fixing a crisp line like that.

Only thing I don't understand is how you get that quarter panel out. Unless I'm blind - it looks to me like that thing is welded in. Do they cut it out?

they drill out the stich welds remove the ****ed up quater panel then aligne the new one weld it back in sand the welds down primer and paint it. its not a big deal most body shops do a decent job at stuff like this I would be more worried about the paint and finish.

I understand it's not a big deal - it's just that my otherwise pristine car now is scarred and I have never had great experiences in any body shop.

**** happens....and if you get the car back and you don't like it, keep taking it back for them to fix it until you are satisfied with the job....however, if you do that, don't be a dick about it

about 2-2.5k worth of damage, you probably doesn't need a new door skin nor new quarter panel. just need to pull the sheet metal out and skim it right

<--does body work himself

Whether I need it or not they're replacing both - like boots said - insist on it.

That is much closer to 7k in body damage. Get the highest quote you can because like you said, the car was pristine before, but its not now.

For a good job, I would expect 5-6k

Its an insurance job right? If so, find the BEST bodyshop you can possibly get.

When I got hit in the fender + door, that is what my tab came out to be.

that may be a total loss.. dibs on the door handle...

j/k.

I'd opt for them to just pull the panels and smooth it out w/ body work.. there's no structural damage so it should not be too extreme..

Not too comfortable about replacing door skins, if you're gonna do that, might as well replace the whole door..

Allot of shops will want to repair instead of replace. This will cost less and make them more $$. You need to insist that your car was perfect metal before and you want perfect metal (NOT FILLER AND BONDO) again. Find a shop who is willing to stick up for you on this and depending on there ins company, you should be able to get them both replaced. If there being replaced, you are looking at 6kish because new s2k parts are expensive and you will have to remove the top for this work to be done.
