ZEX Nitrous; why retard ignition when it's electronically controlled?
I was reading the manual for my ZEX kit and it recommends that anything over 55shot nitrous, you should retard your ignition timing by a few degrees.
So what if I ran a 75 shot, and left the timing where it is.
Detonation?
Now what if I had an aftermarket ignition system, say MSD 6BTM, would I still have to retard timing when running with Nitrous?
So far, I've been through 2 bottles, running it with the 55 shot. Unfortunately, there's not much of difference. It doesn't have that "kick."
Before I get carried away and try 75 shot, hopefully some of you "nitrous experts" can help give me some advice.

Some people get away without retarding their timing on a 75 shot, some don't. If you don't retard your timing you can expect detonation, but like I said some people don't have any problems at all.

since you already have an MSD ignition, i suggest a 3 stage timing retard. you can wire it in so that when the nitrous sprays, it retards the timing to whatever the required degree. that way you run with a retarded timing, but only when you need, that way it won't hurt you daily performance

and anyways if you are going to up your shot you need to retard your timing. i've been running on a 75 shot for a while without my timing retarded and i've already melted (for lack of a better word) 2 sets of spark plugs. i'm seeing some very mild detonation, but usually when i know im going to be spraying a lot i fill up with 100 octane. if you want you can compensate for the higher shot with some high octane fuel (unleaded). or if you've got an older lude you can just kick back the distributor. i plan to get a digital 6 one of these days when im rich and famous
and a clutch... and a flywheel... and a v-afc... and a.... blahpeace
MSD EXPERTS:
I have a MSD6ABTM unit laying around, was planning on hooking it up with a turbo kit, but wondering if I should use this with nitrous?
There is a pressure input line from the MSD unit. If I tee a vacuum line into the FPR line, will this hurt the MSD unit?
If I do this, I'll be sending NITROUS through that vacuum line to the pressure sensor inside the MSDBTM unit. Good idea, Bad idea?
Then again, at least this will be better than the stock ignition.

you cant use btm with n2o. there is no boost involved so the btm will do nothing when the n2o is spraying.
