Icon6 98 EX Auto tranny issues

Well this is the first time I've owned an automatic honda, and it seems to be biting me in the backside. While accelerating, the transmission kind of hesitates when shifting from 1-2 allowing the rpm's to climb. the other gears are 100 percent fine. This also happens when the transmission downshifts from 2-1st gear, it kind of hesitates and clunks into gear.

I'm worried about having to replace the transmission along with all of the other issues with the car, but I was searching around and it sees like this could be a control module issue?

Any insight would be extremely helpful.

Thanks In Advance
-Jason

The only question I would ask is: Is the Check Engine Lamp on?

If it is not, I'd suggest changing out the tranny fluid and removing the shift solenoid pack and clean the screens under them.

Ive literally just got the car recently, barely any miles on it at all. As I was driving it from the DMV the CEL came on, but it was for catalyst efficiency too low. I will see if I have any other errors.

mine did the same thing, 2002 accord coupe auto. jumped out of gear, revved, and then jerked back in gear. it was the 2 solenoids on the transmission. i just did a manual swap instead.

I had the same problem in mine. Had less than 20k on it, would run me all the way up to redline in first, the car would slow down, and then it would drop me into 2nd and shoot me forward.

Honda f'ed up on the transmission, and changing the fluid usually doesn't do anything but make the problem worse, actually, which is surprising.

Mine was replaced under an 8 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty.

well I did as you suggested and removed the solenoids and the screens were indeed filthy. I cleaned them out with cleaner, thoroughly dried them, reinstalled and took it for a test drive with high hopes, and it still has the same issues. I was reading some of the other 10k transmission posts you've answered in the accord forums and noticed you said something about checking continuity...

any chance you can shed some light on how to do that, as it will probably tell me whether or not my solenoid pack is shot or not.

be prepared to rebuild or replace the trans.........if the thing eventually shifts you know it is NOT the shift solenoids. you might try the shift flare for the approperiate gear......
