Default Clicking when turning - only under load?

Okay so I've never actually had an outer CV joint go bad as long as I have been driving since 1996. I've always had problems with inner joints.

So now I have a clicking sound when I turn right, clicking gets faster with wheel RPM (increasing speed), and it only happens under load. If I'm just coasting while turning, there is no clicking sound.

There is also no clicking while turning left.

Does this sound like a bad outer CV joint? It sounds like the clicking is coming from the passenger side, but I just replaced the passenger side axle back in May with a rebuilt one from NAPA (recently changed axle distributors due to poor rebuilt quality). I checked the boots just last week and they are still in good shape. No grease is leaking anywhere.

Id say it sounds like a CV joint if its only happening under load, bit odd if you only replaced the driveshaft back in May though!!

definitely could be the CV, replaced a few of those before at the shop. or could be a bad wheel bearing. mine went bad and did the same thing. thought it was the CV but ended up being the bearing.

both front wheel bearings were brand new installed just about a year ago.

I have never heard of a wheel bearing making a clicking sound only when turning.

Check the band clip around the outer CV boot on that side. Occasionally, I have seen clips on aftermarket axles on which the little bit that sticks out at the clasp is too large, and will contact the top of the lower ball joint once every rotation.

Well the clicking just started a month or two ago, and the pass. side axle has been on there since May. The driver side axle has been on there for a year or two.

It's really hard to pin point an outer joint noise without a chassis ear, especially if the boot is still in tact.

It sounds like the outer joint- I've seen many reman/new Chinese built axles fail after a year.

It could also be the diff...but that would make noise turning left also.

yea I'm going to see if I can tell if there's any free play in the outer joints to help determine which axle is the problem. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side so most likely it is that one, even though it's only been on the car for 6 months.

I know I know, but I have a warranty... already spent enough money on parts this year so I'll just keep putting remans on there for free.

You could get more junk for free or spend extra for something that will work

Well the pass. side axle I had before the current one actually lasted a good 4 years, and then I just happened to catch it with the inner boot torn. The axle itself was still fine. This is actually the first time I've had a reman go bad this quickly that wasn't already bad when I first got it.

Definitely sounds like a bad CV. Just replace the axle since theyre reman's...thats what ive been doing with my Autozone axles, seems like one of mine goes bad about every 6 months due to the car being so low, haha.

A clicking noise while turning is almost certainly a bad outer CV joint in 99% of cases. I'm sure you'll find the boot split and the grease flung out everywhere if you inspect it. Replace the axle.

My boot is totally intact. Visual inspection shows no problems whatsoever. Actually both axles look 100% fine just from looking at it. However I can feel a slight bit of freeplay in the outer CV joint that seems to be clicking.
