Are you spending money on your drag car, car, events?
Considering Honda-Tech is the heartbeat of Sport Compact Drag, I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on what their spending habits are with:
1. Fixing up their cars for horsepower.
2. Participating at drag events.
3. Participating at illegal street racing. (I don't condone this activity.)
4. Attending sport compact drag events as a spectator.

My car is still running without issues. So this winter I won't have to rebuild. I am upgrading a few things to make my car faster and to make more power. That is only natural I think. In the offseason, you fix or upgrade. I don't the quick guys like tony1, joe, miller etc.... even at the speeds they're going will be content with where they're at and will do what they gotta do to go faster next season. (hell, this season isn't even completely over yet).
For us up here in the NW, we're a bit far from everything else to travel to races. But I'll tell you, the guys up here are pretty dedicated. Like myself, they spend a year building they're cars just to run once or twice at Boti (thanks for comin up here twice Frank). I myself am not content with just racing twice. So I will be racing local heads up series races with the V8 boys.
I'm a family guy myself with a wife n kids. So regardless of the economys situation, I don't dump a bunch of $ into my car. But being a family guy, I like to include my family in my racing past time.
And I can't speak for everyone on here. But I think most on here, especially in the Drag racing forum are pretty serious about what they do and have left the street racing days in the past. Most of us started there but you gotta grow up sometime. Most of us have too much invested into our cars to risk losing it or damaging it at the street races.

Why are you still spending money on your drag car or going to events? Always will! Sport Compact Drag Racing is my generations racing! We love our cars! I'm never going to want to race a camaro or mustang. It's just not who I am. I'm not into dirfting. For me it's to much of a car show. In drag racing there is no question. There is a clear winner and a clear loser! No opinions! For most I don't think it's a hobbie. It's part of who you are. It's never going to go away! At least thats the way I feel.

Yes, all events at Etown, Atco, and MIR (import vs domestic)
Do you intend to go to multiple drag events?
Yes, Boti, local events, MIR big event
Do you plan on taking your family at any Sport Compact Drag Events?
Only a few, summerslam, fall nationals-the events become much costlier....
Do you even care about the state of the economy?
Somewhat, home heating oil is down, gas is down, I am more careful but still spending.

Yes, absolutely.

I'm 34, settled with wife and kids, drag racing is main hobby. The car is already done, small upgrades needed (2K-5K) so it's not like building a car from the ground up.

Yes, spending money on not breaking parts.

1. Fixing up their cars for horsepower: i spent a good deal this year mostly with barters and help from friends.
2. Participating at drag events. only participated at the fall nats, but helped by towing other friends to nopi events. my goal was comp lisc. which i got this year
3. Participating at illegal street racing. nevar!
4. Attending sport compact drag events as a spectator. went to about 5 events 1 with car, 4 with others cars.

Are you still spending money on parts to make your drag car faster or better? goin to tempest to have the chute i just got installed. chassis cert coming again, new tires, and a few nuts and bolts.

Do you intend to go to multiple drag events? hope to. i am lucky, MIR is 120 miles away, atco, the grove, cecil, and etown are all less tham 2 hrs.

Had to put my pro all motor car project off for a while until I can get the Pink sedan finished for next season. New motor, better suspension, etc....
Putting money away for travels for next season also. Plan on at least making the Westcoast events. Possibly 1 or 2 Eastcoast events also. The wife loves racing and she had a blast this season. So I am excited for whatever next year brings us.
Sport Compact Drag Racing is a Family sport. Thats how it started out so yes, I will always bring my family to them.

Do you intend to go to multiple drag events? Yes but we can only attend local event's due to the fact I try as hard as I can to be at the shop for my customer's and get there car's to the track and we are very disapointed about not being able to race at Pomona race way.

Do you even care about the state of the economy? Yes we are trying very hard to fight through these hard time's.
Are you as fan of Sport Compact Drag still have a job and are spending money on your car? Yes im the owner of Highend autosports and Spun wheels and I have a budget put on the side for our pro-am car

I went to Vegas for BOTI without being fully recovered from my accident, besides that I cant work and I still pay for parts.

I went to Vegas for BOTI without being fully recovered from my accident, besides that I cant work and I still pay for parts.

This is what I like to do, This is what I love, I have a heart for this that will never die.

No, even if i did spend $$$ on the car, it will never be fast enough to run in the SFWD class

Yes I am, currently got the car all apart going through and changing somethings.
Are you still aiming to participate at any Sport Compact Drag Events?
I dont plan on attending any other than the World Cup Finals. That is the only event other than maybe a few local events that I want to really attend and race.

No I do not plan on going to multiple events.

My brothers like to go and some friends, maybe the gf.

I care way to much, I live in a highly unemployed part of the country. I constantly worry what the outcome is going to be.

Why are you still spending money on your drag car or going to events?
I do have my my job, (THANK GOD!) And working on my car is one of my biggest hobbies. Its in my blood.
It really does give me a good feeling to know that I did most all work myself and people respect what I have accomplished and done with my car, although, it is all done on a budget.

Why are you still spending money on your drag car or going to events? Because i love doing it and i ration myself to keep control of the spending and only go to events currently 8 hrs or less away. I get to meet all sorts of different racers a like and see what i can build and progress on the car myself.

as a sport compact racer or "wanna be racer" you have to know its a bitch when your warmin up the bench on raceday.. meanwhile the particapents are enjoying the racing.
but then again, you dont get to enjoy the "whole thing" if you are racing. its pretty much tunnel vision at that point, focus'd on your car/team getting down the track and making rounds.
as for myself. i havent touched my hotrod since the end of june, when it wiped out a few inexpensive parts. but i do have a new car in the works. and plan on getting the engine together very shortly here.
