Default 98 accord transmission questions

on a cold morning when shifting into reverse the car kind of bangs into it and when shifting into drive it makes one click than makes a bit of a harsh engagement. I would like to know what it could be considering it doesnt slip while driving or any other syptoms to say the transmission was failing. I heard it could be the screens that go to the two solenoids on top could be clogged. someone shine some light on this please.

Honda has had "some" issues with regards to the 6th gen Accords and Odesseys (even so much as extending the warranty on '00 and '01 model years.
At the very least I'd entertain pulling the shift solenoid pack and clean the underlying screen filters.

If you haven't had the trans fluid changed within the last 50k miles, I'd also suggest changing that as well.
