Icon2 slipped timing belt? electrial problem? what the hell!! help me plz! :(

hey guys. i recently had my timing belt changed, and by recently, i mean yesterday...
and on my way home from the shop i started to see/ feel some odd things happining.
first off, i have a 2000 honda civic HB, with a B16B.
the first odd thing i noticed was a high piched whine comming from my bay. when i hand my timing belt changed, i had them slap on a CTR pully, to eliminate my PS and AC. so i figured that that high piched whine noise was the pully, or the pully belt being too tight. wither way, i shruged it off because it was not very audiable, and it wasnt really a big deal, but im not so sure if it was or wasnt.
the next thing i noticed was that when i went to hit v-tec, it seemed alot quieter then normal, or from what i remember it sounding like befor i had my belt changed. then, i noticed that v-tec was cracking at about 6200 rmps, or 6300 rpms... it use t crack right at 6000 rpms... and this was about 5 mins befor my car died. so i only hit v-tec 2 times. the first time, it didnt feel like itpulled as hard, and the second time, it cracked at 63 and was not a powerful...
then, the trouble started. i was crusing at about 65mph, when my car started to act like it was compressing, like i was letting off of the gas. it came in short quick bursts, that made me jolt in my seat. at fist i thought i was running out of gas, but i knew ijust filled it up. then it felt like the car was dieing, it was making poping noises out of my exhaust, i was getting scared, so i tried giving it some gas, and there was no response from the throttle at all, i could hear it sucking in more air, but it wasnt going anyfaster. so i made my way over to the side of the road, and by that time, the car was dead, i dint turn it off either.
then a strange smell hit me, kind of like a nasty burnt really buttery popcorn. i could see smoke comming from the bay, but not much, kind of like a light fog. so i put on my hazards and poped the hood, only to be confronted with that horrible smell. the car turns over, but doesnt start. it sounds like it wants to start, like it almost catches, but then doesnt.

now, that smell brought up another posobility, it smelled like an electrical fire. so i was worried that i burnt something important, because... i had the shop wire in my new jdm foglights. plus i took it to the shop because some wiries got crossed in the car, and my headlights didnt work as well as my blinker. so maybe it was anelectrial problem...

so now im wondering, whats the problem?! i just got it back form the shop, drove maybe 15 miles, then it dies.

does this sound like anything to you guyes? im going to take off the head and check the timing a little later.

please help me out and tell me what i should do or what the problem is!!! thanks!!

btw, the car was a lotmore shaky when i got it back, more things were rattleing... idk if that helps as well.

i seriously doubt your timing belt is slipping. that whistling your hearing could be a LOOSE alternator belt, or it just needs to be lubed, i've never heard it "whistle" from being too tight (but i could be wrong). Once you get the car running just get a bar of soap to the underside of that belt with the engine running, just be careful!!!

Your problem sounds to me like a bad distributor, something similar happened to me, but your could've messed something up like your ICM or some other internal component when the wired crossed.

hope this help.

Is the whistling your hear constant, sporadic, or does it go away after the engine warmed up for a few seconds?

the whine from the belt is RPM spicific. at low rpms, non audiable, but the higher the rpms, the more audiable. its easyer to hear it when you dont go WOT. but more or less, just barly push on the gas so it speeds up slowly.

so does anyone else think i should rule out my timing belt slipping? what other posobilities could it be?

im going to call the shop and talk to them. im sad that after i take my car to a shop is when it breakes down for the first time! i cant help but feel mad at them, even though it may not have been there fault.

I doubt the timing belt is loose, too tight maybe, but not too loose.

This guy might be on to something, Sometimes the bearing in the distributor goes bad and the whole thing flies apart.

im not so sure about the whining noise but i had a very similar problem when a coil went in my distributor, the car started to get a little jumpy and eventually just died within like 5 min. Im not so sure about the vtec but im guessing that maybe if it was the distributor it could affect the engagement of vtec, but like i said im not so sure about that. It could have been a coinicidence that this all just happened at the same time but I would personally think otherwise. If u havent already I would give the shop a call and see what they say.

well, i called the shop and they said they would have no problem checking the work they did with the wiring, and they would check the timing. but after what all you people were telling me, it sounds like my distributer.

plus i hooked up my timing light to the wires, and it appeared to all fire at the correct time.

also, i think that the noise i heard may have been pinging... so thats scary !!!

but im towing it to the shop tomorrow, ill let you know what is the problem, and what damage was caused and how much more in debt ill be!
