'04 Accord - high-pitched whine when backing up
Hoping someone here can help me figure out what's wrong with my car ... I have an '04 Accord EX, and whenever I go in reverse without using either pedal, the car makes a high-pitched whining sound (not squeaking); the sound is coming from the rear of the car. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
Thanx!

No, it's my second - had a 2000 Civic before this car - and that one NEVER made this noise (or any noise in reverse, for that matter), and I've had the Accord for a year and it only started making this noise a week ago.
Try jacking the car up and rotate each rear wheel individually to see IF its just one side or the other. Then I'd take the caliper off to see if it is a bearing, as was previously stated. I'd replace the pads anyway....especially the way they drive in Pennsyl-Jersey.
Not on the rear, espically on that accord if your backing up and hear a loud high pitched noise then you have a pad on the indicator. Wheel bearings dont make high pitch noise the noise is more like a droning type tire noise at highway speeds
I also have an 04 Honda Accord EX V6 that has just started making this whining noise when I back up. I do not have my foot on the brakes when it happens so I am baffled by what it might be. Has anyone else found out what the problem is? Thanks.
My Accord only made a high-pitched noise in reverse when a rear caliper was seized. And that is a VERY common issue with these cars.
