Is the idle simply high? Helm's manual documents how to properly set it, but for starters unplug the IACV and re-adjust the idle on the tb until it's at about 500rpm. When you plug the IACV back in it should rise to about 750 with no accessories on. When you unplug the IACV how low does it drop? Are you sure your tach is accurate?

well it is a 92 i forgot to mention that. i dont think there is a idle screw on those. its a jdm h22. when i start it, its usually around 1800 and when i take the plug off it goes down to about 800. i think the tach is right cuz i can hear the difference when i do it.

Mine is a 93 with 2.3L- There is an idle adjust screw on the passenger side of the throttle body, right where the plastic duct connects to the metal throttle. It is on top of the body and slightly to the rear - it is also a bit recessed. Clockwise to reduce idle speed, counter-clockwise to increase.

The ECU and IAC can adjust the speed, but there is no intelligence in the adjustment. The idle speed gets bumped up a bit as load comes onto the engine. Mine seems somewhat unresponsive for the first load item, no matter if it is putting into gear, lights, AC.... So, Idle drops from 700 to about 500 with first load and stays there.
