I think I would like to see option 1. I am interested in what kind of power can be had from a single cam F-series. The fact that it will run on E85 is pretty cool too. The second option sounds too much like just an vtec H23, which is commercially available. Just my 2 pennies.

I don't think a cheap F22 would be as good as a cheap H22/F23.

Is it only your oil-rings that are bad in the current G23?

With your glorified motorcycle as the "cool thing" I went with option 2 since you'd probably get better a better street car out of it. How long would a 14:1 motor be likely to hold together?

Also I now have a 2001 H22A4 lying around in the garage that I could see myself melding with a F23 in a year or two (If I get a pile of money for no good reason or the H22A breaks) and that would be very similar to option 2. So option 2 as well for the self-serving effect of knowing what I'd get if I did it

Option #1

I would like to see the torque potential from the f22a. I notice a lot of drag races start with me pulling into a slight lead with most of the vtec heads I run into. But of course vtec happens. Also if you wanted to it would be nice to tune with a h23a manifold with the secondaries out and E85 and if we all chip in get a bisi regrind...does it not sound nice??

I'd like to see the f23 w/ h22 head potential. Mainly because I'm selfish and your builds are detailed enough that I could follow a long and replicate the results.

I picked option #1, purely cause i would be very interested to see the hp/torque outputs of such a setup. However it was a close call cause i do think the second option would be a better pick for a DD setup. Good luck with whichever project you go with.

I envy those sucessfully swapping DOHC heads on long stroke SOHC blocks, but most aspects of that swap have been accomplished already just with different flavors.

I'm ready to see the potential of an OE parts, high compression all-motor SOHC F-series on a budget, not a mutant F-series with $8+K in custom parts and another $10k into R&D. (no offense to Bisi)

What were your times like with the H22?

The 97mm H22 should be pretty nasty imo, header limiting. SSR did one with an all oem shortblock+blox H22 cams+their header and made 250+whp and more torque than your G23. It would be a natural step from what you've got now.

The difference was only 30 or so foot pounds of midrange torque... But did have to select tire sizes more carefully as I did not have the rev range I had with the H22. Lots more shifting and being mid-corner needing to shift...

Not too easy of a decision.

Did you change my name in the quote or did it do that by itself?

Nah, it's fine, I have my name in the sig anyway. Was just wondering if it's automatically drawing the name from my profile.

14:1 doesn't leave much room for error. Yeah it would be hot, but I don't think it would last very long. The h22 head on the f23 block will probably be more fun (less headache) anyway. 12:1 should wake that engine up enough to make it plenty of fun.

I voted for the H22 build because you are the father of the G23 build and it would be a shame for you to abandon your child! Is it possible to run E85 on the H??? That would be fun to have the H at 14.0:1 on E85!

im interested in the 2.3 block and the h22 head, i think that would be a good (and powerful) combination. and IMO it just dosent seem right without vtec

The F22 is an interesting head because unlike most non-VTEC/economy VTEC Honda heads it doesn't suck (relative to the "power" heads).

But it would be a tradeoff between good street characteristics and power, which you don't need to make as much with VTEC.

It's always interesting looking at Crower's web page and comparing the aftermarket B18A-B/H23 cams with OEM B18C/H22 cams.

first off, its awesome that you're getting input from all of us for your next build. you really know how to sell your thread. i'll tune in no matter what the result!

well, it looks like i tied the vote back up (for now). i'd really like to see the SOHC/non-vtec setup. its true that youre the godfather of the G-series freakenstein setup, but i think first and foremost, you are responsible for some awesome innovation work. And i really havent seen anything similar to the SOHC setup youre describing. especially in a daily driver package. My local junkyard is chocked full of old accords sporting F-series engines and with an all motor non-vtec engine like youre talking about, im sure i'll be inspired.

overall the F-setup is so "anti-honda-tech" that i think it will spark a bunch of interest. either way im in for the duration...

Im going to vote for option #2.

But, I really want to see you run E85 on it as well. Realistically, its the more reliable option to road race and will have a power band much longer than what you were running. That powerband should give you a whole new perspective on VTEC. I know you ran a h22 before, but the tq band is going to be pushed so low it will redefine what you thought of as cheap race motor. Having the h22 head already also makes it the cheaper option and leaves more room for anything else you end up wanting to add.

You obviously love the idea of racing your prelude considering thats what you did with the g23. Who wants to build a slower and less reliable ride to try and take around the track? If you have the option of improving upon your previous setup for very little monetary cost, why not give it a go?

Its what all of us H series faithful prelude guys want. The do'ers and dream'ers alike would love to see you push the g23 even further.

I voted I would like to see what you can do with a single cam head, and a decent cam.
Who needs hi RPMs when when you can make good TQ down low...

One thing I wouldn't be disappointed to see, would be an H22 BLOCK, with an H23 head. High RPM non-vtec. Since u plan on doing head work anyways, port the head to flow. Its something i wanted to try when i get money to make something fun.

Honestly Pirate, I'd probably go with the H22/F23 combo. It seems like the most beneficial to you because you have the head "sitting" around. I'd Love to see another one of your builds. After you put the new hybrid in, you could just hold the G23 for whenever you need. Though why not go with E85 on the H22 stroker too?

f22a with bisi header and cam with a custom intake manifold will rip. if you port the f22a head then it only gets better. the intake manifold and cam can place your power band where you want it but you might end up with a 1100rpm idle. that's fine to some people. either way you go i can tell it will will work out well.
