hey im deciidng to buy some ground controls and tokico illuminas for my 00 em1. what is a top hat and do i need it to have this installed? if im correct, this is one of the best setups for my civic right? i dont plan on aut-x, just dumped and DD.

a tophat is what sits on top of the shock and spring assembly and mounts to your car so yes they are necessary, although you can reuse your stock ones it would mean taking the stock suspension apart which you need the proper tools for otherwise you could hurt yourself...but you can usually borrow a spring compressor from autozone. but your best option is to go with new extended top hats because theyll allow you to go lower without sacrificing suspension travel which will make the ride alot better. you can find them on ground controls website

 

you can just use yur stock top hats

 

you CAN use oem tophats but its recommended that u use longer ones so they pull the strut shaft out so u dont bottom out and blow ur strut if ur gonna be dumped.

 

makes the world of a difference, trust me :-)

 

extended top hats = baller status

on my ef i have konis + omni coilovers dumped the extended top hats make all the difference in the rear, i dont have them on the fronts and my struts bottom out over every little bump

 

yeah I blew a rear strut when I first got my yellow definetely go for the extended top hats unless you go for the race valved konis
